Job Summary

Under supervision of the practice management, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Medical Assistant 3 assists in the delivery of care to patients in the UCSF Wellness Center . Work includes a performing and assisting with a variety of clinical procedures, reconciling patient's medications and communicating health care maintenance reminders to assure positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the primary or specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. S/he is required to learn and be able to assist in the UCSF Wellness Center and any additional pediatric specialties clinics at Mission Bay. The Medical Assistant is required to learn and work closely with the administrative, clinical and management teams to support practice operations, customer recovery, and intervention efforts. S/he is a team player who works closely with others and who is flexible in dealing with changing priorities. S/he is a self-reliant individual who synthesized his/her knowledge of clinic operations to problem-solve, prioritize, and facilitate complex transactions in the course of his/her daily activities. S/he is required to adhere to the Living Pride Standards and Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $32.86 - $41.01 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Wellness Center for Youth with Chronic Conditions is an innovative new center that partners with patients, families, health care providers, and researchers to create a lifetime of wellness for children and adolescents living with chronic illness. Our center focuses on the co-creation of individualized pathways towards wellness for children with chronic illnesses and their families. We partner with patients over the long haul to provide personalized holistic support - connecting them with wellness services, providing support in the transition from pediatric to adult medical care, and helping them build a community of peers. By embracing a wellness-centered framework for care, we seek to compliment what is already available within the traditional medical system, and to address important gaps in empowerment and psychosocial connection.

Required Qualifications

* This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
* All candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:

o Certificate of training or graduation from an accredited MA, Home Health Aide, PCA, CNA, dental or paramedic program or college degree in a related field such as community health, infectious disease, public health or health education and six months of relevant experience
o OR
o 1 year of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant in a hospital or medical practice
* Passing score on UCSF written communication exam
* Passing score on UCSF computer skills exam
* High School Diploma or GED
* Successful completion of required UCSF competencies for the job title MAII related to medication administration, vaccinations and nebulizer treatments within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

* National certification as a Medical Assistant from a recognized program: NCCT, AAMA, CCBMA or AMT
* Bilingual/multilingual
* Prior experience with patients with chronic illness
* Flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings
* Personal connection with chronic illness

License/Certification

* American Heart Association, CPR certification
* California State CPT-1
