About This Role:

Kansas State University Veterinary Health Center is excited to offer a tremendous leadership opportunity within the teaching hospital environment. The successful candidate will provide operational oversight and leadership for veterinary teaching hospital personnel and will be responsible for maintaining an environment that produces high quality patient care, client service, teaching, and research. Service areas include primary and specialty care in many disciplines. The successful candidate will maintain current knowledge of healthcare administration trends while providing leadership for teaching hospital personnel.

In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Clinical Programs, the successful candidate will contribute to a positive, high-performing, and engaged culture within the hospital and college community through support and development of the hospital's veterinary technical and administrative employees toward the goal of quality patient care and excellent client service. The VHC Hospital Administrator serves on the VHC Hospital Board with active participation and is directly involved with large construction projects and strategic planning initiatives. VHC activities include electronic medical record keeping initiatives with continued development, implementation and oversight. These efforts will be complemented by assisting with faculty engagement in hospital operations. The Hospital Administrator will work collaboratively within a team environment and effectively develop and lead teams. The successful candidate will be responsive to faculty, staff, management, and client concerns and ensure effective and consistent communication and feedback channels among these various customer groups.

The successful candidate will assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining practices and policies to ensure hospital operations remain efficient, financially viable, and positive for patients, clients and employees. Overall hospital safety and compliance with hospital policy will also be key components of this position.

The starting date is negotiable. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and qualifications.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • MBA or MHA, or relevant Master's degree
  • 5+ years managing and/or providing direction in a hospital/health entity, training hospital entity and/or a professional medical training organization
  • Excellent knowledge of business processing, management, and hospital operations
  • Proven ability in managing a complex operation
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, networking, and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to positively contribute in a team environment
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to make decisions, delegate responsibility and achieve results with hospital team members
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks and deal with an environment of changing priorities
