Overview

The PRN Lactation Educator teaches breast feeding and prenatal childbirthing classes for the facility. Also fulfills all the duties of the registered nurse profile.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ADN education
  • State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License
  • Certified Lactation Counselor or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Must maintain Certification and CE*s appropriate for a Lactation Counselor or IBCLC.
  • Must register with the NM Board of Nursing * Lactation Care Providers.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP required.


Responsibilities

  • Teach childbirth education classes
  • Teach prenatal breastfeeding classes
  • Providing one on one breastfeeding education to new mothers during their hospital stay
  • Answering calls regarding breastfeeding.
  • Providing post-discharge breastfeeding consultation to new mothers.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and education of staff with Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative
  • Assists with reporting monthly statistics for Baby Friendly, Shaken Baby Syndrome
  • Assists with patient care as required
