Sierra Vista Hospital is seeking Behavioral Health Admission Nurse (Per Diem) shift for the Intake Department. The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Behavioral Health Admissions Nurse supports the department using established nursing protocol for all possible admissions. Answers inquiry calls, schedules assessments, and performs psychiatric assessments for individuals presenting for an assessment. The assessment RNs provide clinical summary and recommendation based on their findings, consult with the psychiatrist, and refer individuals to the appropriate lowest level of care based on the psychiatrists orders. Additionally, assessment RNs provide community referrals as indicated and desired by the individuals. RNs take telephone orders from admitting MDs, perform initial medical screening through referring ERs. They may be responsible for initial insurance pre-authorization of admitted patients with-in 24 hours. All staff are required to assist in maintaining an organized and clean department by auditing and data entry of referrals, re-stocking documents and forms and filing as time permits. Cross-functional training may be required to learn skills that will allow the license to work seamlessly throughout the facility.

  • 7am-7pm
  • 7pm-7am

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum associates Degree from an accredited program and an RN license, required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of six (6) months direct medical and clinical experience as a licensed RN required, preferably in a psychiatric or mental health setting, with direct experience in patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations preferred. ER experience with psychiatric patients with demonstrated knowledge acceptable.

Licensure: RN.

Additional Requirements: CPR Certification required. Complete knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
