Staff, Embedded Engineer - C/C++, Linux, BSD, Unix Kernel

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer with a strong background in Linux/BSD/UNIX kernel development to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in kernel programming, system architecture, and driver development, with a passion for enhancing system performance and code quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of recent experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining Linux/BSD/Unix kernel code.
  • Solid understanding of core kernel subsystems like device drivers, memory management, file systems, networking, debugging and tracing.
  • Extensive expertise in C/C++ programming, hardware bring-up, system architecture, supporting BSP for x86 or ARM platforms, developing drivers for FPGAs, and CPLDs.
  • Proficient in working with low-level kernel interfaces such as PCIe, SPI, I2C, MDIO, GPIOs, and interrupts.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration ability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Contributions to mainline Linux kernel or other open-source projects are a plus.
  • Familiarity working with git and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines is a plus.
  • Experience in systems performance analysis and optimization using tools like perf, eBPF and tracing utilities is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to refactor and manage complex, unstructured codebases to enhance code quality, maintainability, and scalability.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute high-quality kernel and OS infra code to support Juniper platforms.
  • Measure system performance across various workloads, identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve performance and resiliency.
  • Review code and provide feedback to other developers.
  • Help improve developer workflow by ensuring best practices and improving workflow automation tools.,
  • Prune and refactor spaghetti code to improve maintainability.
  • Mentor platform teams and junior developers on Linux kernel development and system architecture.

Minimum Salary: $159,200.00

Maximum Salary:$228,850.00

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $159,200.00 and $228,850.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
