Overview

As a Geologist/Environmental Scientist for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Johnson City office, you will be directly involved with environmental compliance, site investigations and remedial action assessments and implementation. Your primary responsibility will be performing field activities, including: assisting with and leading field sampling activities for groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil monitoring/assessment projects, oversight of soil boring advancement and soil classification and logging activities, field screening of various media for evidence of environmental impacts, documenting groundwater monitoring well and piezometer installation activities, and various media sample collection. You will also assist with reporting activities, including managing and interpreting environmental data, developing a variety of contour maps including potentiometric surface maps, iso-concentration maps, and geologic cross sections, and report development. The individual's degree of involvement will be based upon his/her exposure and experience with respect to the assigned work.

Role and responsibilities:

    Collect, analyze, and prepare raw data into workable form for engineering/scientific project reports, plans, specifications, permits, cost estimates, and other project documents;
  • Participate in field work as necessary/required to accomplish tasks assigned by the project manager;
  • Help to coordinate assigned tasks with other staff to successfully complete assignments and report progress to the project manager;
  • Maintain and utilize working knowledge of accepted engineering design, scientific principles, regulatory programs, and field standards and practices in the execution of work as directed by your supervisor;
  • Provide input and assistance in investigating new techniques and methods that may increase the Company's efficiency and incorporate cutting edge applications to arrive at the desired result on projects.


Qualifications

  • The qualified candidate will have 0-5 years of professional experience;
  • BS Degree in Environmental Science or Geology (preferred), or related field;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Basic technical competency, and demonstrated skills in engineering/scientific judgment, mathematical applications, and verbal/written communications;
  • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently;
  • Ability to travel over-night and extended hours;
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills;
  • Ability to participate in field work and basic competency with hand tools and power equipment such as generators, pumps, air compressors, and field chemistry meters;
  • Core competency in Microsoft Office;
  • As required by discipline, take training courses/secure certifications in various specialized areas such as health and safety, hazardous materials inspection, sample collection techniques, environmental site assessments, etc.; and
  • Current 40-hour HAZWOPER training (not required, but preferred).
