Legal Counsel

Overview

The Legal Counsel will provide legal support for our marketed and late-stage clinical programs, partnering with marketing, sales, medical affairs, patient services, and market access teams. This position will require you to work in a matrix setting of a fast-paced, rapidly growing organization. You will engage with key business partners developing strategies and tactics across all channels, including activities related to engaging with customers, advertising & promotion, disease awareness, patient support programs, and commercial litigation.

You will need to partner effectively with colleagues across the Commercial Legal Team and broader Legal Department. You will also need to collaborate successfully with various stakeholders such as the Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Ethics & Compliance teams as well as outside counsel. This includes working with colleagues and stakeholders in different geographies. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of healthcare laws as they relate to advertising and promotion and fraud and abuse.

This position is preferably hybrid (primarily located inCambridge, MA) but remote may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high quality legal advice and support to U.S. commercial, medical affairs, patient services, and market access teams based on applicable laws and regulations (including those that involve fraud and abuse and anti-bribery laws) and Alnylam policies and guidelines
• Analyze materials and training related to advertising & promotion, disease awareness, patient support programs, and medical education as well as press releases, and investor and scientific presentations related to Alnylam products and pipeline
• Identify, analyze, and mitigate legal and commercial risks, engage and coordinate outside counsel for certain advice as agreed within Commercial Legal, and advise relevant teams
• Partner with compliance team on training and other activities
• Support pre-litigation and litigation matters (internal/external correspondence, court filings, etc.), including collect information and create records of documents, summarize concepts, and develop content to support legal assessments and trainings for the business
• Progress team initiatives and processes by helping ensure consistency of guidance, stakeholder momentum, and effective change management
• Partner with legal colleagues to support general corporate and R&D legal matters as well as other legal projects and initiatives as needed
• Track and organize priorities, project milestones, program materials, and legal advice by setting up and maintaining repositories, processes, and frameworks

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctor from an accredited law school in the U.S. both required, with excellent academic credentials preferred
• Minimum 2 years of legal experience
• Current bar admission covering in-house practice
• Experience in pharma / biotech industry, or from a law firm working on healthcare-related matters
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a wide variety of company colleagues as well as with external parties on a broad range of matters
• Ability to make and communicate thoughtful, integrated and timely decisions and take corresponding actions and escalate certain matters in Commercial Legal as appropriate
• Manage outside counsel as agreed within Commercial Legal
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to work independently and manage discrete areas of responsibility, and to flourish in a fast-paced and high energy environment
• Strong organizational skills in order to maintain a high level of productivity, innovation and priority-settling in order to meet commitments on-time and handle a high volume of work
• Proven ability to work with a high level of integrity, transparency, accuracy and attention to detail
