Technical Writer / Analyst

Position Summary: As part of the Information Technology Services team, the Technical Writer / Analyst will document policies and procedures, and will be assisting in planning, carrying out, and maintaining security measures and documents to protect the University's computer networks and systems. The position is primarily remote with possible occasional visits to Yeshiva University's Wilf Campus in upper Manhattan and will report to the InfoSec Manager. S/he will support the team to ensure ITS procedures and information security is seen as a positive advantage to the business, not just compliance, and provide inputs into future strategy and other areas of the wider Information Assurance.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute in the creation and changes of all ITS documentation procedures and policies with a primary focus on information security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Assist in the monitoring and enforcement of compliance to security policies.
  • Aid in the development, evaluation, and implementation of governance and compliance processes to mitigate cybersecurity risk and ensure the protection of company assets and information.
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to analyze threat reports and resolve any related incidents.
  • Provide guidance as needed to IT and Business partners to ensure secure implementation of processes, systems and services.
  • General Counsel liaison with ITS regarding written policies and incidents.
  • Verify that every endpoint is compliant with the ITS security policy.
  • Evaluate 3rd party entities when implementing solutions with YU.
  • Develop reports to share with administrators about the efficiency of security policies and recommend any changes.
  • Organize and conduct training for all employees regarding University security and information safeguarding.
  • Plan and document all security information in the University including physical and internet security.
  • Update the ITS website with all new documentation, procedures and policies.
  • Assist on all departmental duties and responsibilities.


Experience & Education Background:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related area.
  • 2+ years data security experience as analyst or higher.


Skills & Competencies: Required


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Deep knowledge of FERPA, NIST, PCI, GLBA, GDPR, NY State and all regulations.
  • Understanding of Windows and Unix operating system fundamentals.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Being able to work with a multi-departmental team.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.


Preferred


  • Information Security certification a plus: CISSP, CISM, SANS, etc.
  • Knowledge of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery is a plus.
  • Programming experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills to determine the key pieces of information required to make informed decisions. The ability to utilize data analysis tools such as MS Excel (e.g. pivot tables, etc.).
  • Project management experience/knowledge, with ability to drive projects to successful completion.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory.


Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000
