Description

Are you looking for exciting opportunities that will continue to challenge and develop your technical abilities throughout your career?

Do you want to work as part of engineering and analysis teams which help solve some of our country's most complicated defensive challenges?

The Maritime Force Engagement Control group is seeking dedicated problem solvers to help us understand complex system and system of system issues, assess and identify performance limitations and drivers, and provide balanced solutions to increase the overall defensive capability of our Navy's ships. We focus on the command and control of kinetic and nonkinetic weapon systems and effectors to enable an optimal, layered defensive web.

If you are graduating with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or similar degrees and want to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment to solve challenging technical problems, we'd like you to join our team. You will have the opportunity to support the full spectrum of engineering activities, ranging from concept and algorithm development through system evaluation and analysis, as well as tactics development.

We are seeking a wide range of talented individuals to help us:

  • Perform early research into promising technologies that lead to improving our Navy's ability to maintain superior situational awareness in the fog of war, identify blatant and subtle hostile actions, and dynamically allocate limited resources in a changing battlefield.
  • Assess and refine novel algorithms that increase the performance of shipboard defensive systems.
  • Use sophisticated simulations of Naval capabilities and adversarial threat systems (e.g., missiles, swarms of autonomous platforms), paired with machine learning technologies, in order to develop robust solutions to transform systemic weaknesses into strengths.
  • Apply data analytic and statistical methodologies to analyze current systems and root cause performance issues.
  • Assist in the development, test, and analysis of innovative advancements to our weapon control systems.
  • Effectively communicate technical recommendations to APL leadership, government sponsors, and the engineering community.
  • Contribute to a dynamic group culture to uphold core values through participation in collaborative teams and activities, as well as a dedication to continual improvement, innovation and risk-taking, and developing high quality products.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

* Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Aerospace), Math, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

* Have a technical experience as demonstrated in at least one internship, research experience, or other similar opportunity

* Have demonstrated proficiency using Python or Matlab

* Have demonstrated strong interpersonal and communications skills

* Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

* Have experience in algorithm design and optimization, decision processes, or resource optimization and allocation schema

* Have experience with modeling or analyzing a complex system (military system preferred)

* Have experience with signal processing specific to radars or communication systems

* Have experience with processing, organizing and assessing large data sets

* Have experience with C++ based software

* Have domain knowledge of U.S. Navy systems
