Why This Role Matters

At Claritev, we are building the next generation of AI-native products to transform healthcare. As a Principal AI Engineer / Architect, you will lead the architecture and hands-on development of innovative AI solutions, guiding concepts from initial prototype through scalable production deployment.

This role sits at the intersection of AI engineering, data architecture, and distributed systems. You will design and build agentic applications that leverage large language models, retrieval systems, enterprise data platforms, and intelligent workflows to solve complex business challenges.

This is an opportunity for a highly technical leader who thrives in ambiguous 01 environments and can translate complex business needs into secure, scalable, and reliable AI products that deliver measurable impact in real-world healthcare settings.

What You'll Do

  • Architect and build 01 AI products from prototype through production deployment.

  • Design agentic AI systems leveraging LLMs, RAG, tool use, workflow orchestration, memory, MCP, and human-in-the-loop capabilities.

  • Architect scalable data pipelines across APIs, customer feeds, documents, data lakes, data warehouses, and legacy enterprise systems.

  • Build AI solutions capable of operating over large-scale enterprise datasets using appropriate combinations of AI, analytics, and software engineering patterns.

  • Design enterprise retrieval architectures using vector search, hybrid search, metadata filtering, reranking, semantic layers, and provenance controls.

  • Develop analytical and data-driven AI agents, including text-to-SQL, automated insights, and reasoning across structured and unstructured data.

  • Build production-grade services using Python, SQL, APIs, distributed computing frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and containerized environments.

  • Ensure solutions are designed for reliability, scalability, observability, security, latency optimization, evaluation, and cost efficiency.

  • Establish reusable AI architecture patterns, engineering standards, and best practices across products and teams.

  • Partner closely with AI Science, Engineering, Data, Product, Security, and customer-facing stakeholders.

  • Mentor engineers and scientists while remaining actively engaged in solution architecture and software development.

  • Ensure AI solutions comply with healthcare security, privacy, HIPAA, and PHI protection requirements.

What You Will Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, machine learning, or AI engineering, including experience operating at a Staff, Principal, or Architect level.

  • Strong hands-on expertise in Python, SQL, APIs, system architecture, and distributed systems.

  • Experience architecting large-scale data pipelines and data-intensive applications, including complex and legacy enterprise environments.

  • Production experience with LLMs, AI agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector and hybrid retrieval, tool calling, and orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or equivalent.

  • Experience with modern data architectures including ETL/ELT, data lakehouses, warehouses, streaming platforms, distributed compute frameworks, and analytical databases.

  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture, containers, CI/CD, security, observability, and production operations.

  • Experience designing evaluation and monitoring solutions for AI reliability, accuracy, latency, and operational cost.

  • Ability to make sound architectural decisions across AI, traditional machine learning, search, analytics, SQL, deterministic software, and data engineering technologies.

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, or similar technologies.

  • Strong ownership, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, health technology, insurance, claims, payment integrity, or other regulated industries.

  • Experience building AI solutions that process sensitive data, including PHI and PII.

  • Experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise workflows, automation platforms, and business processes.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $190,000 to $210,000. Actual compensation is based on experience, skills, education, work location, and internal equity. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and the comprehensive benefits outlined in the My Total Value section.
