Job Summary : Participate in the delivery of safe, quality patient care by providing clean, disinfected, sterilized instruments, implants, metal goods, and equipment to hospital departments.Job Description Essential Responsibilities: 1. Fiscal a. Assists anesthesia, surgeons, and associates with procedural related tasks b. Monitors instrument/equipment for processing following manufacture/AMMI guidelines. c. Carries out established procedures: cleaning, decontaminating and sterilization. d. Provides assistance in the order of priority and re-prioritizes as designated by the director or designee. e. Alters own time schedule to adjust to changes in activity level of the department. f. Fill out appropriate work orders and support unit goals to eliminate waste g. Orders and oversees surgical supply inventory, and appropriate materials are available when needed. 2. Quality a. Responsible for loading and unloading all sterilizing and cleaning equipment to allow for proper steam or gas sterilization of all items. b. Supports client care by readily responding to on-going intermittent and unexpected changes in delegated aspects of care. c. Facilitates planning, provision and documentation of client care per request of anesthesia, surgeons and OR associates. d.Consults and collaborates appropriately to revise instrument sets and supply pull sheets as technological advances influence changes in delegated aspects of care. e. Accept and delegate tasks appropriately and promote teamwork 3. Patient Satisfaction a. Collaborates with other health care providers regarding the plan of intraoperative cares, including instrument/supply set up prior to case. b. Responds quickly to request for supplies/instruments. c. Maintain professional environment and keep noise to a minimum at all times d. Exemplifies excellent guests relations to patients, visitors, and physicians and co-workers. 4. Patient Safety a. Cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all instruments, metal goods, and equipment used for patient care. b. Assembling and packaging of all instruments and implants and assuring that they are correctly labeled and assembled. c. Responsible for safe operation of all equipment used for cleaning and sterilization. d. Responsible for accurate and meticulous documentation of all sterilizer charts, record books, and biological records. e. Responsible for understanding and appropriately following the hospital-wide Body Substance/Standard Precautions, Respiratory & AFB isolation protocols and to be compliant with the minimal protective barrier requirements for tasks performed in Central Sterile. f. Adhere to HIPAA and follow social media policy 5. Professional Growth a. Share knowledge and skills with colleagues and others including orientation and cross-training. b. Demonstrate leadership and be a resource for peer c. Identify professional needs and collaborates with management for learning opportunities for self and for the unit d. Participate in development and implementation of departmental goals. e. Attend product practice change in-services. 6. Customer Service a. Establish and Maintains strong relationships with all customers, focusing on physicians, provider practices, anesthesia and public b. Provide a professional and quiet patient environment c. Practice AIDET (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) d. Promote commitment to co-workers, view all staff as part of an equal team and be approachable at all times, and maintain interdepartmental relationships e.
