Full-Time 40 Hrs. Week Monday - Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm Hybrid Summary: The Risk Management Specialist supports the health system's risk management efforts by identifying, investigating, evaluating, and mitigating clinical and operational risks that may impact patients, visitors, staff, and the organization. Responsibilities: 1. Identify, track, and analyze clinical risks, trends, and potential liability exposure across the health system using safety event reports, patient and family complaints, claims information, and other available resources and data. 2. Prepare investigation summaries and potential claim evaluation reports as directed by the Director, Risk Management. 3. Recommend, develop, implement, evaluate, and monitor risk management and mitigation strategies to improve patient safety and reduce liability exposure. 4. Assist clinical and operational leadership with proactive risk assessments and collaborate on risk management strategies under the direction of the Director, Risk Management. 5. Participate in RCAs, ACAs, and investigations of safety events and patient complaints in collaboration with the Quality Department and clinical leadership to evaluate potential liability exposure. 6. Promote a culture of safety through collaboration, education, consultation, and support for clinical and operational staff. 7. Develop and deliver risk management education, including documentation standards and disclosure practices, and serve as a resource to staff as related issues arise. 8. Prepare dashboards, reports, and presentations for leadership and committees, as requested. 9. Assist the VP, Senior Associate Counsel and Director, Risk Management with professional and general liability claims by serving as a liaison with insurance carriers and claim managers, coordinating preservation and collection of documentation for active and potential litigation, and maintaining accurate claim files. 10. Participate in committees and process improvement initiatives focused on quality improvement and patient experience, and assist in the development and implementation of risk management policies. Other information: Technical Expertise 1. The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all professional levels within an organization is required. 2. Experience working with electronic health record systems and incident reporting systems is required. 3. Experience in claims reporting and management is strongly preferred. 4. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required. 5. Experience working in healthcare risk management or quality is strongly preferred. Education and Experience 1. Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or other healthcare field, or bachelor's degree preferred. Or Associate Degree in Nursing or diploma nursing education also preferred. 2. Licensure: RN licensure preferred 3. Certification: Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or eligibility is preferred 4. Years of relevant experience: * Bachelor's degree, and a minimum 3 years of experience in risk management is required; 5 years of experience in risk management is preferred. OR * Bachelor of science degree in nursing or healthcare field, and a minimum of 3 years clinical work experience is required; 5 years of clinical work experience is preferred. OR * Associate Degree in Nursing or diploma nursing education, and a minimum of 10 years of progressive clinical experience, including leadership, quality improvement, patient safety, or risk management experience preferred. 5.
