Primary Responsibilities

HDR's Transportation Engineer in the Dallas office will: serve as a project manager or task leader for transportation engineering projects of various sizes and complexity, coordinating the work of the design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project; prepare, design, or produce elements of contract plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation-related civil engineering projects using state, county, and city or other applicable standards, including Roadway Sections, Intersection Layout, Interchange Layout, Horizontal and Vertical Alignment, Right of Way Plans, Temporary Erosion Control Plans, Site Preparation Plans, Transportation Profiles, Retaining Wall Plans, Drainage Plans and Profiles, Utility Plans, Paving, Pavement Marking Plans, Signing Plans, and Traffic Control Plans; prepare or review scopes, budgets, and schedules; conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines; write reports and technical memorandums; coordinate with subconsultants and clients to keep projects on schedule and within budget; work closely with the Area Manager, Transportation Business Group Manager, Transportation Program Manager, Section Managers, and multiple Project Managers for project reviews; implement project quality plans; and review work of and mentor junior engineers and technical staff as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 2 years of experience in transportation engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 5 years of experience in transportation engineering.
  • Required experience must include experience in: Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Projects; Roadway Design Manuals, Standards and Practices; street/arterial roadways; urban and rural highway interchanges; intersection design; transportation planning; preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD base alignment plans; preparation of plan layouts and exhibits; technical report writing for projects; 3D modeling; MicroStation; OpenRoads; Geopak; CAD design software; ArcGIS; and MS Office.
  • Must have passed Principles and Practice of Engineering examination for PE licensure or already have Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
