Job Summary

The Engineering R&D Technician is responsible for performing a variety of mechanical, electrical, dimensional, and visual tests on medical devices to support research, development, and product validation activities. This role follows established testing procedures, accurately documents results, communicates findings with engineering teams, and operates a variety of laboratory equipment while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards. The position is fully on-site and offers the opportunity to transition from temporary to permanent employment.

Job Responsibilities



  • Perform mechanical, electrical, conditioning, length, outside diameter (OD), and visual testing on medical devices.
  • Follow detailed written and verbal instructions to execute testing procedures accurately.
  • Maintain accurate test records and documentation using Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Communicate test results, observations, and issues clearly to engineering team members.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and testing instruments, including calipers, MTS systems, multimeters, digital thermometers, force gauges, Cognex systems, LabView, and hand tools.
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain approximately 85% laboratory-based work and 15% documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Prepare reports and documentation to support engineering and scientific activities.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative laboratory testing as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • One (1) to four (4) years of relevant testing, laboratory, manufacturing, or engineering technician experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation or drafting reports preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical device testing or product assembly preferred.
  • Experience in research and development or laboratory testing environments preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately follow detailed procedures and maintain documentation in accordance with quality standards.


Education



  • Associate degree or post-secondary education preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience will be considered.


Work Experience



  • One (1) to four (4) years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing, laboratory testing, engineering support, or mechanical assembly preferred.
  • Candidates with a consistent work history and demonstrated reliability are strongly preferred.
