THE ROLE:

The Manufacturing Technician supports AMD's System Level Test (SLT) Engineering Lab in Austin, Texas, ensuring the reliable operation of test systems used to validate next-generation silicon products. This highly hands-on role is responsible for equipment setup, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and hardware repair in a fast-paced lab environment. Working closely with engineering and operations teams, the Manufacturing Technician helps maximize test system uptime and supports critical silicon validation activities across advanced server and semiconductor platforms.


THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is a motivated, hands-on technician with experience working with electronics, computer hardware, and test equipment. You enjoy diagnosing and resolving technical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting complex hardware systems. Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively both independently and in collaboration with engineers and fellow technicians.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the setup, operation, and maintenance of System Level Test (SLT) equipment used for silicon validation.
  • Perform software, firmware, and BIOS updates on test systems.
  • Troubleshoot test failures, hardware issues, and electronic assemblies to identify root causes and restore functionality.
  • Execute preventive maintenance, tester validation, and calibration activities to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Perform component-level repairs and soldering as required.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools, including multimeters, to support hardware troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to support daily lab activities, priorities, and continuous improvement efforts.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic test equipment.
  • Hands-on experience using multimeters and other diagnostic tools; soldering experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, including servers, memory, storage, and system assembly.
  • Basic Linux operating system and command-line experience.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance, calibration processes, and tester validation methodologies.
  • Experience supporting liquid-cooled systems is a plus.
  • Background in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, military technical training, or equivalent experience in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant technical certifications are considered a plus.

  • This is a rotational night shift position
