Position Summary

The Marine Field Project Manager I (MFPM I) is a junior staff position responsible for assisting and learning about the installation, commissioning, and documentation of Caterpillar marine engine sales projects alongside our current marine staff and at the direction of a Marine Field Project Manager II (MFPM II). The job involves both in-house and field troubleshooting and customer interaction in a very integrated team environment. Local travel to Louisiana and Florida is routine, international travel is seldom.

Must be a socially adaptable, highly intelligent, and a hard-working technical person who thrives on challenges and who wants to work with a cohesive team. This person needs an honest work ethic, a humble willingness to learn from anyone, and must be astute to apply all available resources toward problem solving. This person must be able to communicate and summarize intricate technical issues to audiences of various levels of technical ability.

This position assists the MFPM II with planning, installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of marine power and propulsion plants. This position is a pathway to earning a MFPM II position.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

Project installation and commissioning



  • Assist on installation and commissioning projects in the field
  • Provide constructive feedback on package, control, and integration drawings produced by our engineers and suppliers
  • Communicate project details with engineers, field technicians, inside project manager, sales representative, our suppliers, customers, and other suppliers
  • Support sales representative with insight and feedback as needed


Solve product and design problems in the field



  • Solve application issues
  • Solve supplier product issues
  • Solve technical design faults
  • Provide project design feedback for future enhancement


Common tasking



  • Assisting project execution in the field
  • Provide mechanical and electrical/electronic logic design input to engineers
  • Assisting equipment installation/performance troubleshooting on the job site
  • Teaching other technically oriented people how to operate or manipulate equipment systems
  • Assisting design of logical systems in the field
  • Assisting engineering research in the office to solve customer, vendor, and coworker issues


Qualifications

Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent


Experience



  • Mechanical and electrical construction familiarity
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills

Safety Summary

Work is normally performed in company office, worksite, or shop environment. Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions is associated with this position. Sitting for extended periods of time, driving for extended periods of time, and standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required.
