Job Description

Primary Purpose:Support Mizzou Academy middle and high school students, instructors, and academic programs through teaching, student support, curriculum development, and collaboration. This position provides expertise in Health and Fitness education, contributes to high-quality grading and feedback practices through modeling and collaboration, and works across teams to support student success and program growth.Duties:90% Teaching

40% Instruction, Feedback, and Student Support

  • Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students in Health and Fitness courses while managing a high volume of submissions and maintaining instructional quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with instructional specialists to support consistent grading practices, quality feedback, and instructional expectations.
  • Monitor student progress, grade complex or sensitive assignments as needed, and identify opportunities to support student success.
  • Work closely with counseling and support services teams to inform and implement student support plans.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and instructors to support learning, engagement, and achievement.
  • Model and promote responsible academic practices, including ethical decision-making, digital citizenship, and the effective use of GenAI as a learning tool.
  • Foster a positive, supportive learning environment that promotes student wellness and success.

30% Curriculum Design and Development

  • Contribute content expertise to the development, revision, and continuous improvement of Health and Fitness curriculum, including opportunities to support or lead projects based on program needs and individual strengths.
  • Support the design, development, and implementation of new grades 6-8 Physical Education courses and other instructional initiatives across Mizzou Academy.
  • Review, evaluate, and improve existing courses using stakeholder feedback, student data, and best practices to support high-quality learning experiences.
  • Develop instructional resources and learning experiences that support student success in a flexible online environment.

20% Program Development and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with educational partners to support program implementation, student success, and strong relationships with schools and organizations.
  • Contribute expertise in health, wellness, and blended learning to Mizzou Academy initiatives and school-wide efforts, sharing observations and recommendations that support student success, engagement, belonging, and access.
  • Represent Mizzou Academy professionally in interactions with students, families, educators, and partner organizations.
  • Participate in collaborative projects, professional learning opportunities, and other initiatives that support Mizzou Academy's mission.
  • Strengthen Mizzou Academy's role as the University of Missouri's K-12 laboratory school.
10% Service
  • Participate in community-engaged service opportunities that support students, especially in Health and Fitness.
  • Collaborate with the College of Education and Human Development to support research-informed practices in online and blended teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to university service through committees, outreach, partnership development, and strategic initiatives.
  • Take on leadership opportunities in content areas, including professional organizations.
  • Contribute to scholarship by sharing promising practices through presentations, professional learning, and collaborative projects with CEHD colleagues, university stakeholders, and educational partners.

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to contribute to evolving priorities and other duties as assigned.

Fully remote

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree in Education (or a related field)

Candidates will be evaluated on the degrees/certifications and experience listed below.

Degrees/certifications:

  • Missouri teaching certification in Health, Physical Education, or a related field
  • Earned doctorate in Education or a related field

Experience:

  • Teaching Health and/or Physical Education at the K-12 level
  • Developing or revising Health and Physical Education curriculum
  • Teaching students from varied cultural, linguistic, and international backgrounds
  • Teaching and supporting students in online and blended learning environments
  • Supporting educators through coaching, mentoring, and professional learning
  • Using Canvas LMS and SpeedGrader to facilitate teaching, learning, and course development
  • Modeling high-quality, student-centered feedback in online learning environments
  • Practicing student-centered instruction and contributing to collaborative, continuous improvement efforts
  • Building positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and educational partners
