Mechanical Repair & Equipment Service Technician

Coperion Corporate
746 East Milwaukee Street (Show on map)
Jun 25, 2026

As a Mechanical Repair & Equipment Service Technician, you'll take on hands-on work that helps customers keep critical equipment in service and their operations moving. At Coperion, a Hillenbrand company, in Whitewater, Wisconsin, you'll be part of an in-house repair center where mechanical skill, sound judgment, and steady follow-through matter every day. We provide equipment and systems used in material handling and processing across industrial applications. Your work will help extend equipment life, improve service reliability, and support steady long-term repair-center performance.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Diagnose customer-owned equipment through inspection, teardown, and mechanical troubleshooting to identify failure points, determine repairability, and define the work needed to return units to service.

  • Disassemble, repair, rebuild, and reassemble gearboxes, bearing shaft assemblies, metering equipment, and related mechanical units by following established repair procedures, safety protocols, manufacturer specifications, and workmanship standards to deliver precise, high-quality repairs.

  • Test repaired equipment through functional checks, inspections, and quality verification methods to confirm proper operation and readiness for return shipment.

  • Receive, inspect, tag, log, and track incoming equipment and Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) activity by verifying customer information, work order alignment, condition on receipt, and completeness against documentation to maintain traceability and organized workflow from intake through closure.

  • Document repair findings, labor time, parts usage, service actions, inventory movement, and completion status in Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and related systems, including SAP, to support service history, billing inputs, customer records, and data integrity across platforms.

  • Build and maintain Excel-based tracking and reporting tools by using functions such as pivot tables, XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP, data validation, and conditional formatting to monitor repair status, turnaround time, backlog visibility, parts availability, inventory levels, and lead-time awareness.

  • Communicate repair status, technical findings, shipment readiness, and documentation needs through clear updates and day-to-day coordination with customer support, service, operations partners, and customers as needed to keep work moving and expectations aligned.

TEAM:

  • You'll work closely with customer support, service, parts, shipping and receiving, production scheduling, and operations partners to keep repairs moving and information aligned. Most of your work will be hands-on and independent, and you'll contribute to a respectful, inclusive environment where people support one another and help strengthen service performance across Coperion and Hillenbrand.

THE EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED:

  • High school diploma or GED and a combination of education and directly related mechanical repair experience.

  • Hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and testing industrial mechanical equipment in a repair center, service, maintenance, manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.

  • Experience with mechanical assembly and rebuild work involving bearings, bushings, gearboxes, rotating components, metering equipment, or similar industrial systems.

  • Ability to inspect worn or damaged equipment, evaluate condition, determine repair versus replacement, and complete repair work with sound judgment, consistency, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to read and follow work orders, repair procedures, parts references, technical documentation, and manufacturer specifications to complete work safely and accurately.

  • Experience documenting repair activity, labor time, parts usage, RMA activity, work order status, or service findings in business systems, spreadsheets, or other required records with strong attention to detail.

  • Comfort using Microsoft Excel and general computer tools for tracking, reporting, and organization, plus the ability to learn or use CRM, CPQ, ERP, or similar systems that support repair workflow and inventory visibility.

  • Ability to work independently, stay organized across a varied workload, communicate clearly with internal partners and customers, and maintain safe, reliable work habits in an on-site industrial environment.
