Responsible for the daily routing of McLane deliveries. Review planned routing and adjust routes to meet customer expectations and optimize delivery miles and fleet utilization.

This is an on-site position which will require the candidate to report and work from the office. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Rocky Mount, NC and/or Carrollton, TX.

What you'll do as a Transportation Router:

  • Analyze and summarize transportation systems software data and routing software data to assess expected and actual performance to plan.
  • Continually improve the routing process to reduce miles, improve customer estimated times of arrival, and reduce the overall workload within the department.
  • Analyze evening load balancing, minimizing additional mileage created for loads over capacity.
  • Develop summarized reports and conduct analysis of transportation performance to key executives throughout the company.
  • Provide transportation systems support, best practices, metrics, and reporting.
  • Provide daily metrics for reporting and work with actual performance data to improve on-time performance by adjusting planned routing models to reflect new data points and actual performance.
  • Coordinate with local transportation leadership to ensure drivers and asset utilization.
  • Communicate with local distribution center customer service to ensure that customer on-time performance objectives are met.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications you'll bring as a Transportation Router:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain/logistics, transportation, industrial engineering, or a related field. Four additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • One year (or more) of relevant experience in dispatching, freight management/brokerage, or process engineering.
  • Knowledge of routing software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of fleet tracking software (PeopleNet and TMW knowledge a plus).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Be able to provide 24-7 transportation systems support.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
