Job Summary

The Material Planner I is responsible for coordinating material procurement, inventory management, and supply planning activities to support production schedules and customer demand. This role works closely with suppliers, production teams, purchasing, and logistics personnel to ensure materials are available when needed while maintaining optimal inventory levels. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, supply chain knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Responsibilities



  • Generate, maintain, and analyze Material Requirements Planning (MRP) schedules based on production forecasts, customer demand, and inventory targets.
  • Coordinate procurement of raw materials, components, and finished goods to support production requirements and delivery schedules.
  • Monitor inventory levels and initiate replenishment activities to prevent material shortages while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and adherence to quality, cost, and delivery expectations.
  • Work closely with production teams to align material availability with manufacturing schedules and customer commitments.
  • Conduct inventory audits, cycle counts, and reconciliations to maintain inventory accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Analyze demand trends, inventory usage, supplier performance, and supply chain data to identify opportunities for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Communicate proactively with cross-functional teams to address material shortages, supply chain disruptions, and inventory-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and planning data within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory management, material planning, and supply chain efficiency.
  • Assist with reporting, data analysis, and supply chain performance metrics.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Logistics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in materials planning, procurement, inventory management, supply chain, or a related role.
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles, inventory control practices, and materials management processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external suppliers.


Education



  • Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.


Work Experience



  • 1-3 years of experience in materials planning, inventory control, procurement, production planning, or supply chain operations required.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, production, distribution, or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience utilizing ERP/MRP systems for inventory and materials planning preferred.


Preferred Qualifications



  • APICS CPIM certification or related supply chain certification.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with demand planning, forecasting, and inventory optimization tools.
  • Knowledge of supplier management, procurement processes, and contract administration.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or production operations.
