ABOUT THE POSITION

Environmental Project Manager - Site Investigation & Remediation

Location: Manasquan, New Jersey; Newark, New Jersey; or Princeton, New Jersey

At VHB, our Site Investigation & Remediation (SI&R) practice is dedicated to delivering comprehensive services that investigate, manage and mitigate environmental risks while satisfying regulatory requirements and project variables. Join our team and play a crucial role in enhancing how we deliver technically excellent and thoughtful SI&R services to our clients. You'll be instrumental in creating cost-effective, multi-disciplinary solutions and providing essential SI&R support for some of New Jersey's most notable development and infrastructure projects.

Serving clients mainly in New Jersey but all across the Northeast, we offer a complete suite of services-including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Preliminary Assessments (PAs), subsurface investigations, as well as design and permitting support, which add value and foster sustainable growth. VHB has an immediate opening for an Environmental Project Manager to join our expanding SI&R team in New Jersey. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven environmental professional who is passionate about solving complex challenges and motivated to help grow our SI&R practice. We're seeking someone with a growth mindset -- a proven technical lead who has strong client connections in New Jersey, can build relationships with VHB's existing clients and foster new pursuits in the marketplace. A 65-person SI&R team across VHB's footprint will be available to provide resources and strong technical support to the selected candidate as part of this personal and professional growth opportunity. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of professionals from diverse disciplines, fostering innovation and comprehensive solutions that will benefit the community we love.

Responsibilities

    Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to develop creative, cost-effective, and compliant solutions for sites that are complicated by the presence of contamination.
  • Manage diverse SI&R projects while maintaining and growing client relationships.
  • Coordinate the preparation and review of project deliverables (Phase I ESAs, Preliminary Assessments (PAs), desktop due diligence memos, site investigation reports, evaluations and corrective action alternatives, soil management plans, corrective action plans, etc.) with a high level of proficiency.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, including coaching of field procedures, task and budget management, and promotion of a positive client experience.
  • Represent VHB through participation in professional organizations, conferences, and community engagement.
  • Stay current with regulations, emerging contaminants, evolving technologies, and industry trends.

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent communication skills, including exceptional writing and the ability to review technical documents with attention to detail.
  • Innovative spirit and a growth mindset-eager to build new client relationships and expand our visibility in the region.
  • Strong team leadership, adaptability, collaborative problem-solving and an ability to support the career development of junior staff.
  • Field and office experience (role is primarily office-based, with occasional field oversight).
  • Experience with natural resources, wetlands delineation, and environmental permitting is a plus.
  • Brownfield investigation and remediation experience a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental/Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology or a related field (Master's a plus).
  • 5-8+ years of professional experience in environmental consulting and site remediation.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and managing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Preliminary Assessments (PAs) is required.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and current 8-hour refresher certification required.
  • PE, PG or LEP licensure preferred
  • On track to obtain LSRP when eligible, preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of NJDEP regulations and environmental due diligence requirements.
  • Established positive relationships with NJDEP and EPA Region 2 strongly preferred.
  • Experience with natural sciences, wetlands, ecological assessments, or related environmental permitting is a bonus.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New Jersey is $90,000-$110,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
