Pay Rate: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour
1st Shift | 5:00 AM - 1:40 PM Your Eye for Quality Keeps the Line Running Step into a Quality Assurance Specialist role in San Diego where accuracy and pride go hand in hand. You'll spot what others miss and make sure every piece meets top standards. What It Takes:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field
- 1-2 years of experience in food manufacturing, quality assurance, or food safety role
- Strong knowledge of food safety and quality assurance principles
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents (specifications, COAs, scientific reports)
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, internal teams, and management
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities independently
- High level of dependability and accuracy in documentation and execution
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment with occasional overtime (including Saturdays)
What You'll Do: Incoming Quality & Material Control
- Inspect incoming raw materials, packaging, and labels for compliance with food safety and quality standards
- Place nonconforming materials on hold physically and within the Savant system
- Communicate material holds, dispositions, and quality issues to Quality, Purchasing, Planning, and Production teams
- Ensure quarantined materials and affected lots are properly identified, isolated, and accounted for in warehouse and production areas
- Support investigation and resolution of out-of-specification or missing documentation issues
Supplier Quality & Communication
- Communicate directly with suppliers regarding quality issues, nonconformances, and documentation gaps
- Support annual supplier documentation reviews in coordination with the Director of FSQA
- Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs), specifications, and technical documentation for compliance and accuracy
- Support supplier approval and ongoing supplier performance monitoring
Food Safety & Quality Systems Support
- Manage hold and release programs for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods
- Coordinate finished product sampling, laboratory submissions, and COA tracking and release
- Support environmental monitoring programs, including swab plan execution when required
- Assist with equipment calibration coordination and verification activities
- Maintain accurate documentation, records, and controlled storage (physical and digital systems)
- Verify quality monitoring activities to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards
Cross-Functional Support & Compliance
- Collaborate with Warehouse, Production, Purchasing, and Product Development teams to ensure compliant material flow
- Ensure all products meet defined food safety and quality specifications
- Support effective communication of quality issues and corrective actions across departments
- Assist with audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
