Organizational Unit Overview
University Communications translates ECU's message into strategic and compelling communications through the university's owned media platforms and marketing assets. The purpose is to provide strategic communications and marketing guidance and support to increase the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and support of the University and its work with broad and varied audiences. From prospective students to identified thought leaders to prospective donors. UC performs media relations, public affairs, internal communication and strategic communication work on behalf of the university and reports and disseminates information about events, activities, research, policies, individuals and alumni of the University, both through the media, videos, ECU.edu, the university website and through owned publications and other forums, through Creative Services, works with all university departments to conceptualize, design, develop, and produce written, audio-visual, digital and print projects to brand, communicate, and market their messages to appropriate audiences. Creative Services also provides strategic marketing advice for the university.
Job Duties
This position is part of a five-person video production team and will report directly to the University Communications Video Manager.
Video Production & Storytelling

  • Produce highquality video content across a variety of formats and styles, including:

    • Marketing and brand storytelling
    • Interviews and documentarystyle features
    • Campus life and experiential content
    • Shortform and vertical video for social and digital platforms



  • Lead or support productions ranging from solo shoots to multicrew projects, depending on scope and complexity.
  • Capture compelling Broll, interviews and live footage in studio and on location across campus and in the community.
  • Translate strategic communication goals into engaging visual narratives tailored to defined audiences and platforms.

Planning & Client Collaboration

  • Work directly with university communication colleagues and other internal stakeholders to define project goals, audiences, messaging and creative direction.
  • Provide guidance on video approach, scope, timelines and production methodology based on project needs and resources.
  • Plan shoots independently or collaboratively, including location scouting, scheduling, equipment selection, and basic production design.

Technical Execution

  • Operate a variety of professional camera systems, including mirrorless, cinema, and broadcaststyle platforms (e.g., Canon Cseries, Sony a7Sseries or similar).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in:

    • 4K and higherresolution acquisition and postproduction workflows
    • Professional audio capture using lavalier, boom, and oncamera microphones, and field recorders
    • Basic lighting design for interviews, small sets, onlocation shoots, and exterior shoots.
    • Camera stabilization systems (tripods, monopods, gimbals,)


  • Apply strong technical judgment to achieve consistent results under varied and sometimes challenging production conditions.

PostProduction and Delivery

  • Edit video projects using Adobe CC Suite
  • Create and integrate motion graphics, titles, and lowerthirds using established templates and original designs while adhering to brand standards.
  • Perform color correction and basic color grading to maintain visual consistency and brand quality.
  • Perform sound mixing and sound design for story enhancement
  • Prepare optimized deliverables for multiple platforms, including web, social media, presentations, and broadcast.
  • Ensure projects meet accessibility standards, including captioning and best practices for inclusive media.

Innovation, Trends and Support

  • Stay current with emerging video trends, storytelling styles, equipment, software, and best practices-particularly within higher education and digital marketing environments.
  • Incorporate datainformed thinking, including platform performance considerations, into creative decisions when appropriate.
  • Support media archiving, asset management, and storage best practices.
  • Assist with equipment inventory, needs assessment, and recommendations aligned with evolving production standards and budgets.
  • Provide field-production, postproduction or technical support to other videographers and creative team members as needed.

Some night and weekend work is required.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience related to the area of assignment in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Advanced video production experience or a combination of training and experience is preferred. Experience with video storytelling; familiarity with short-form and vertical video best practices for social platforms; experience working within brand guidelines and strategic communications frameworks is preferred. Experience with 4K video, mirrorless camera systems, and audio and lighting equipment; Adobe CC Suite and related graphics applications. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
