We have a Field Engineering Services Manager opportunity in Chattanooga, TN. This person will oversee testing and commissioning services of the business unit and ensuring proper resource allocations, while also supporting technical excellence, quality assurance, revenue growth, profitability and safety. In addition, this role includes Accounting, Project Management, and Technical Expertise for various sized electrical substation and generator plant projects.

Major Responsibilities



  • Report to the Operations Manager and responsible for testing and commissioning operations of the business unit and its interactions across the ETG
  • Supports development and execution of the short-to-long term strategic plan, including the revenue and
    profit goals
  • Responsible for supporting business reporting and attending relevant business meetings
  • Develop and enhance the positive culture of the business unit and ensure proper operations and safety
    of the team
  • Ensure proper use of EOS across Field Services Team and at the ETG and Business Unit Level: L10 Meetings, Core Values, V/TO, Scorecards, IDS, Quarterly Conversations, Rocks, Quarterly/Annual Meetings, etc.
  • Ensure projects under Field Services Team are completed on time and within the defined budget, while maintaining the quality assurance
  • Support Business Unit recruitment and hiring per strategic recruiting plan
  • Manage business unit's staffing changes (hiring, disciplinary action, terminations) in collaboration with Operations Manager and Human Resources
  • Track and review staffs' performance and responsible for the on-time completion of staffs' annual performance assessment\Evaluate the project needs and competency of business unit staff to achieve optimum resource pool
  • Support business unit staff with their career development planning and growth. Provide mentorship and guidance to help team members obtain their short-term and long-term goals
  • Support the Operations Manager and Business Development team on business development activities
  • Manage key accounts / customers including contract and rate negotiations, client-specific staffing, business development, and strategic planning
  • Ability to effectively develop and manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality for projects of varying size and complexity, including customer and business unit reporting of scope, schedule, and earned value
  • Development of proposals, project budgets, execution plans, work breakdown structures, and schedules
  • Balance Field Services Management time with billable work managing team projects

  • Develops and maintain strong working relationships with customers, demonstrates an awareness of customer needs, preferences, time and financial constraints


Job Requirements

Education Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical or engineering technology) from an accredited institution or 15 years of Field Testing and Commissioning experience is required.

Experience A minimum of 7-10 years testing & commissioning and electrical engineering experience or 15 years of testing & commissioning experience including both technical and supervisory responsibilities. Strong leadership and client relation skills required. Experience should include:



  • In-depth understanding of three-phase power systems
  • In-depth understating of protection and control schemes and implementation
  • In-depth experience utilizing relay test sets with various relay vendors including SEL, GE, Beckwith, ABB, Basler, etc. and various manufacturers of electromechanical relays
  • In-depth understanding of equipment testing - circuit breakers, transformers, circuit switchers, MOABS, CTs, PTs, batteries & chargers, transfer switches, line tuners, wave traps, carrier relays, etc.
  • In-depth experience executing in-service power measurements (load checks)
  • Experience leading crews to test and commission new and modified substations including equipment isolation/restoration and complex circuit cutovers being mindful to mitigate inadvertent operations
  • Experience with rotating machinery, including generators and excitation systems
  • Experience testing previously programmed RTUs locally and remotely to system operators
  • Experience with SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems


Working Conditions Standard office work, work-from-home, and in the field leadership. On-site environment could require work in various temperature conditions; in and/or around moisture, on slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in confined spaces, and at heights; will require frequent standing, driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing, and reaching; will have exposure to noise, vibrations and chemicals. May require irregular or extended hours, subject to being on call and travel for project completion.
