THE POSITION

As a Nurse Aide with the Department of Corrections, you will play an important part in supporting inmate well-being. This role gives you the chance to build strong care skills and contribute to a safe, respectful setting. Every day brings new opportunities to help others and learn. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports individualized care plans for inmates at SCI Laurel Highlands and helps maintain their health and comfort. The role involves providing direct care, observing inmate conditions, and assisting the healthcare team. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vital Sign Monitoring: Check and record vital signs, height, and weight and collect required medical specimens
  • Personal Care Support: Assist inmates with hygiene, grooming, dressing, feeding, and mobility needs
  • Safety and Comfort: Provide position changes, ambulation help, and skin care while observing safety guidelines
  • Escort Assistance: Help transport wheelchair inmates to medical appointments, tests, and consultations
  • Record Keeping: Document care activities and update electronic health records in a timely manner
  • Cleanliness and Supplies: Maintain a clean work area and ensure equipment and supplies are properly stocked

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 8-hour shifts, rotating days off, and a 30-minute lunch.
    • 1st shift (6:00 AM to 2:30 PM),
    • 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM)
    • 3rd shift (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM)
  • Work schedules are to be determined at the time of hire.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirements:

  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
