THE POSITION

As a Therapeutic Activities Worker for the Department of Human Services, you will help support meaningful experiences for individuals at Warren State Hospital. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support the Therapeutic Recreation Department by creating and leading activities that help patients learn, grow, and take part in their treatment. As a Therapeutic Activities Worker, you will perform the following duties:

  • Therapeutic Programming: Develop activity plans and lead sessions across program areas to support treatment goals
  • Educational Support: Provide group learning opportunities and individual guidance when needed
  • Assessment Input: Offer observations and documentation to help treatment teams understand patient progress
  • Program Evaluation: Review activity options and recommend improvements based on patient needs and interests
  • Record Keeping: Enter monthly statistics and maintain accurate activity and progress notes
  • Equipment Care: Monitor, repair, and replace materials to keep program areas safe and ready for use

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work every other weekend.
  • This position may require overtime and travel.
  • Free parking

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with physical, medical, or cognitive disabilities; or
  • A bachelor's degree with major coursework in therapeutic recreation; physical education; vocational rehabilitation; vocational education or counseling; art, music, dance, or occupational therapies; or a related human services field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
