Position Purpose:

As the AVP of Underwriting Administration, you will be responsible for strategically and tactically managing the underwriting staff. In this role, you will maximize premium production while minimizing financial risk, and underwriting of new/renewal contracts. The proven leader that we seek will have strong employee benefits knowledge and experience. The decisions made in this impactful position have the opportunity to produce income and/or prevent loss. Location: This position is full-time (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday working HYBRID in the United States or ONSITE at our Tower Gervais, 1301 Gervais St, Columbia, SC 29201 location. You may be required to travel between buildings.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for recruiting and hiring, coaching and mentoring, monitoring and evaluation, and addressing all disciplinary issues in a timely manner.

  • Encourage staff in creating and maintaining a work environment with high morale and employee satisfaction through support of professional development, training, career growth, and rewarding high performance.

  • Responsible for underwriting and approving quotes that are outside of other underwriters authority level.

  • Develop, analyze and distribute underwriting reports to senior management.

  • Develop new product strategies for clients.

To Qualify for This Position, You'll Need the Following:

  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree

  • Required Experience:

    • 10+ years Underwriting experience.

    • 3 years Management experience or equivalent military experience in grade E5 or above (may be concurrent).

  • Required Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of insurers/competitive practices regarding underwriting.

    • Knowledge of the operations of the Corporation and its various subsidiaries.

    • Understanding of advanced mathematics and rating methodologies.

    • Excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to exercise good judgment with a capacity of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.

    • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities. Strong analytical, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.

    • Ability to adapt to every changing business environment/priorities.

  • Required Software and Other Tools: Ability to use standard office equipment. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, or other word processing, spreadsheet software.

We Prefer That You Have the Following:

  • Exceptional leadership skills.

  • Life and Health Insurance License.

  • Master's Degree.

  • SPAS rating system or other rating and analytical tools.

  • Strong employee benefits knowledge and experience.

  • Exceptional understanding of risk and health delivery systems.

  • Experience working with national accounts.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, decision-making and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, understanding of key health care financial metrics.

  • Strong financial acumen.
