LOCATION: The Salvation Army - Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center - Phoenix, Arizona

STATUS: On Call/ Temporary/ Non-Exempt

MISSION STATEMENT:

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience supporting individuals with cognitive, emotional, or developmental disabilities (e.g. ADH, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ODD) preferred.
  • Background or coursework in psychology, social work, education, or related field preferred.
  • Must become CPR/First Aid/AED certified prior to first camp session worked.
  • Strong ability to manage behavioral situations with calmness and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated experience in inclusive practices or trauma-informed care preferred.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to support camp staff with behavior redirection and transitional routines.
  • Must thrive in a team-oriented environment, maintaining non-judgmental and empathetic attitudes toward children and families.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Support the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army.
  • Work under the direction of the Arts, Education & Camp Manager to implement inclusive integration strategies.
  • Follow the approved guidelines for the Sensory Room to include When to use, Procedures, PTM Policies, Rules, Documentation, Behavioral tier chart and Chain of Command.
  • Provide flexible behavioral support co campers with disabilities in real-time during structured and unstructured camp activities.
  • Assist with transitions, redirection, and de-escalation during daily camp routines.
  • Maintain a calm, supportive, and proactive presence when behavior challenges arise.
  • Utilize trauma-informed approaches to encourage emotional regulation and peer inclusion.
  • Support and model inclusive interactions between campers with and without disabilities.
  • Collaborate with Day Camp Counselors to ensure consistent behavior management approaches.
  • Escort and supervise campers using the Sensory Room as directed, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
  • Maintain documentation as required by the Arts, Education & Camp Manager. Documentation to include but not limited to: Sensory log sheets, Notice of Concerns, RTP's and/or verbal Communication with parent/guardians.
  • Communicate observations and concerns to the camp leadership team.
  • Attend staff training sessions and contribute to continuous improvement of inclusive practices.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of sensory tools and calming spaces.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all camper and program matters.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate a telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
