Apprentice Maintenance Mechanic (2nd Shift)

SUMMARY

This is an entry-level maintenance position intended to develop skills for a future maintenance role. The selected candidate will gain these skills through on-the-job training and coursework.

Works closely with the maintenance team, production staff, and other departments to support the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities. Responsibilities include assisting with repairs and upkeep of machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, utilities, tools, conveyor systems, and production machines. The role also supports basic maintenance of control and electrical systems and participates in ongoing plant maintenance, including hydraulic, plumbing, steam, pneumatic, sheet metal, and welding-related work. The position requires initiative to identify and help resolve issues while contributing effectively to a team-based environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • General knowledge of industrial or processing equipment.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, conveyors, production machinery, and utilities.
  • Exposure to hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, steam, and basic electrical systems preferred.
  • Awareness of safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance instructions.
  • General computer proficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks on plant equipment and facilities.
  • Learn and develop maintenance skills through on-the-job training and required coursework.
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including completing routine reports.
  • Perform basic math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculations involving rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Solve practical problems and follow written, verbal, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
  • Take initiative in identifying issues and work collaboratively with maintenance, production, and other teams.
  • Perform physical job duties including standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and lifting up to 60 pounds.
  • Work safely in environments with moving machinery, loud noise, wet or humid conditions, electrical exposure, and varying temperatures.
  • Other job duties may be assigned as needed.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six months to one-year position-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Entry-level maintenance or mechanical experience preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in on-the-job training and coursework to support skill development and future advancement.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.



  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places
  • Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock.
  • May occasionally have exposures to extreme wet and/or humid conditions, heat/cold temperatures, and loud machine/equipment noise and outside extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc.).
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals, and fumes or airborne particles.
  • Other job duties may be assigned as needed.


Pay Information

Salary range: $ 21.32 p/h - $ 24.78 p/h. based on qualifications

This range reflects the full pay scale for all roles within this position's grade. The actual salary offer will consider various factors, such as experience and, if applicable, location.
