The newly renovated Courtyard by Marriott, Boston-Cambridge is nestled on the banks of the historic Charles River, home of the Head of the Charles Regatta. With its unique location situated between prestigious Harvard University and M.I.T., the hotel offers 207 newly renovated rooms. A short walk puts you in Harvard and Central Square, where there are a variety of restaurants and night life to choose from.
Overview
Please note this is a DUAL POSTION. Candidates will be required to work two (2) Night Audit shifts as well as two (2) Safety & Security shifts, however, duties will not overlap. As Night Auditor you will be responsible for reconciling all hotel cashier transactions, reviewing, organizing and compiling management reports on a timely basis and ensuring the accuracy of guest billings and city ledger transactions. You are also responsible for effectively communicating concerns and/or related issues to all levels of management and performing guest service agent duties as required, including check-in, check-out, switchboard operation and reservations. As Safety and Security Officer you will be responsible for providing protection and communication with hotel guests and employees. You are also responsible for patrolling hotel premises to maintain security, detect and report fire, security and safety hazards and/or violations of Highgate Hotel's rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
Fundamental Requirements - Night Audit
Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
- Must be willing to cross train in other accounting or hotel-related areas.
- Perform guest services functions as required (i.e. check guests in/out, take reservations, we-up calls, etc.).
- Audit and reconcile financial and statistical reports.
- Prepare and distribute necessary daily reports as required (i.e., Daily Operating Report, Discount Programs, Tax Reports, etc.) according to hotel standards.
- Prepare and distribute month-end reports.
- Audit and reconcile all Front Desk and Food & Beverage Cashier's work.
- Audit, reconcile, consolidate, and transmit all credit cards on a timely basis.
- Prioritize job functions to meet deadlines.
- Ensure accuracy of all numbers reported including statistics.
- Input and update financial information into corporate communications network.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly and annual data processing system functions as required.
- Keep management abreast of any unusual operational or financial events and/or deviations of policies or procedures.
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Handle guest requests.
Fundamental Requirements - Safety & Security
- Use proper radio etiquette.
- Maintain visual contact with the Front Desk/Night Auditor and the front door of the hotel by remaining in the Lobby area when not on property walks.
- Maintain and review daily activity log.
- Hold briefing with Guest Services staff both at the beginning and end of shift.
- Check ID of visitors/employees as necessary.
- Access secured areas for authorized personnel.
- Maintain an awareness of legal limitations of position (local, state and/or federal ordinances).
- Assist during medical emergencies.
- Assist outside agencies, as necessary, to maintain effective liaison.
- Respond to and investigate altercations.
- Have knowledge of hotel and guestroom locking systems.
- Monitor TV cameras, if applicable.
- Challenge suspicious people.
- Check safety hazards.
- Administer Heimlich Maneuver and or First Aid/CPR as necessary
- Document all deliveries.
- Patrol area to ensure that areas are secure and free of unauthorized people and disturbances.
- Provide escorts for anyone carrying money, or other requests.
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Handle guest requests.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: * High School diploma or equivalent and/or one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field required. * Guest Service Experience preferred. * Computer knowledge/skills required. Physical requirements: * Flexible and long hours are occasionally required. * Heavy work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. * Ability to stand during entire shift. * Ability to climb and descend stairways and run. * Ability to physically deter individuals who pose a threat to employees and/or guests. * Late/Overnight shift.

- Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
- Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
