Job Description

Director of Operations Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for leading, managing, planning, directing, organizing, and controlling all manufacturing operations to achieve Cannon-Muskegon's strategic objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures a safe and environmentally compliant workplace that meets all regulatory standards. Assures compliance for all company, regulatory, and EH&S policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to all Company 6-S initiatives and policies. Ensures all employees follow 6-S rules.
  • Establishes the vision and expectations for manufacturing operations including safety, staffing, quality, and productivity.
  • Provides direction, resolves problems, and sets deadlines to assure all manufacturing objectives are met. Monitors production schedules and processes, directs production managers to assure key activities are accomplished on a daily basis.
  • Drive continuous improvement in OEE for production operations to increase throughput through vacuum and air melt operations, through specific, measurable action plans with defined deadlines.
  • Drive continuous improvement in finished product yield, scrap reduction, and home-scrap utilization MOM through specific and measurable action plans.
  • Identify or develop a ready-now candidate for all key direct-report positions and cascade the same to direct reports.
  • Oversees and manages the activities related to facilities and general maintenance.
  • Monitors and reviews manufacturing processes to set priority for the team for optimizing plant safety, efficiency and continuous improvement of production methods, labor, machinery, tooling, and equipment.
  • Owns the plant capital budget ensuring needs are identified, cost-analyzed, justified, and appropriated to meet manufacturing needs and corporate objectives.
  • Analyzes plant operations, prepares reports, makes presentations, and communicates with all levels of the organization and PCC Corporate officials as necessary pertaining to plant manufacturing activities.
  • Assists in developing and implementing strategic business initiatives.
  • Works closely with Quality, Sales and Technology departments to assist in resolving customer issues and technical problems pertaining to product quality, delivery and other technical concerns.
  • Establishes staffing levels and directs the workforce to meet company labor objectives.
  • Partners with Human Resources in developing, implementing, and enforcing hourly personnel and labor relations policies and practices.
  • Benchmarks to identify industry issues and technological advancements to assist the company in maintaining its competitive ability.
  • Must be willing and able to work extra hours as needed to ensure that deliverables are timey realized.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Four-year degree in a related field of study (e.g. Engineering, Material Science, Manufacturing Management, Finance).
  • Minimum of 7 years of operations management experience.
  • MBA, or equivalent preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk or sit; regularly required to use hands. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The typical work environment is a standard office setting / office contained in a foundry or manufacturing setting. The employee is occasionally required to perform work in a foundry environment with occasional exposure to work near moving mechanical parts / work in high temperatures / risk of electrical shock; the typical noise level is moderate noise.
