What You'll Do:

As our System Planning Engineering Co-op, you'll support efforts to improve the interconnection process as new energy resources connect to the grid. You'll help develop tools, automate workflows, and enhance how data is managed to support faster and more efficient integration of generation resources.

You'll gain hands-on experience with:



  • Python scripting and automation
  • Power system modeling tools such as PSSE, PowerWorld, and TARA
  • CRM Dynamics and data management platforms
  • Real-world interconnection processes and grid transformation efforts

You're collaborating with engineers to improve how new energy resources connect to the grid. You might be writing scripts to automate a manual process or building tools that improve data visibility. You'll see your work used by the team in real time, helping accelerate interconnection timelines and support grid reliability.

You'll also play a role in one of the most important shifts in the energy industry, the transformation of the generation fleet and integration of new resources onto the grid.

Qualifications at a Glance:

Term: August 19 - December 11, 2026 | Full-time | Paid
Location: Carmel, IN | Housing available for qualified students
Academic Level: Undergraduate (Juniors or Seniors) or Graduate
Degree: Electrical Engineering

Required Technical Skills:



  • Foundational Electrical Engineering coursework
  • Exposure to power systems concepts such as power flow and electrical machines


Preferred Skills:



  • Programming experience with Python
  • Familiarity with tools such as PSSE, PowerWorld, or TARA
  • Experience working with data or automation projects


By the End of Your Co-op, You'll Walk Away With:



  • Experience working on real-world engineering tools and applications
  • Practical understanding of the interconnection process
  • Exposure to grid transformation and reliability challenges
  • Confidence applying classroom knowledge to industry problems
