Building Performance Analysts (IMPACT Specialist II), SmithGroup, Inc., subsidiary of SmithGroup Co., Inc., 301 Battery Street, 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA



Under the supervision of a Senior Building Performance Analyst, Building Performance Analyst will work in collaboration with Architects, Engineers, and Sustainable Design leaders within SmithGroup to develop performance models (energy, daylighting, thermal comfort, visual comfort, airflow, carbon) at a variety of scales (urban, district, building system) in support of SmithGroup IMPACT (Integrated Multidisciplinary Performance Analytics Climate Impact Team). Job duties include: Collaborate across disciplines to inform high performance, sustainable, resilient design strategies on projects across markets. Provide modeling expertise and technical parametric analysis in support of project design team. Provide modeling concepts and report to clients and other external parties for use in qualification interviews, project team meetings and community/agency reviews. Develop tools, processes, and standards to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of performance modeling. Research, validate, and implement modeling software programs and tools. Create staff training/development to increase the knowledge of project teams in the application of modeling methods. Provide data analysis and visualization using Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, and Python. Create custom computational tools and workflows using Python and Grasshopper. Regularly work with building performance modeling software: SimScale, Ladybug Honeybee Tools, Climate Studio, Pollination, IES-VE, EnergyPlus, Autodesk Forma, OneClick LCA, c.scale, and HelioScope. Regularly work with architectural design software: Rhino + Grasshopper, Autodesk Revit, SketchUp, and AutoCAD. Regularly work with collaboration software: Microsoft Office Suite, Affinity Designer, Publisher and Photo. Telecommuting is permitted. Regional travel may be required, less than 5% of work time.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural engineering, or a closely related field of study (foreign equivalent degrees accepted), and at least 3 years of professional experience in any related occupation providing performance simulations, design criteria & feedback for facade and building development, indoor and outdoor thermal comfort, daylighting, energy use reduction and renewable systems. A LEED AP certification is also required. Basic annual pay range is one hundred ten thousand dollars to one hundred eighteen thousand dollars for full-time employment and standard company benefits.
