THE SALVATION ARMY NORTH & CENTRAL ILLINOIS DIVISION OAKBROOK TERRACE CORPS POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Child Care Worker LOCATION/DEPT: Oakbrook Terrace Corps REPORTS TO: Youth Development Director FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt STATUS TYPE: RPT PAY GRADE: 201 PAY RANGE: $16.60 - $20.00 OUTCOMES Develop age-appropriate programs and care for infants through elementary-aged children. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the care of children in the Corps nursery or gym during various activities.
- Assist to plan age-appropriate programs for toddlers, pre-school, and elementary aged children.
- Recommend to the Corps Officer appropriate games, toys, books, and resources that will enable a wholesome experience for children.
- Attend training that will ensure the proper care and safety of children, i.e., CPR, First Aid, Safe from Harm.
- Maintain adequate supply of resource materials to administer the program.
- Promote participation of parents and other trained helpers.
- Facilitate training, as necessary, for helpers in the childcare program.
- All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Under general supervision of the Youth Development Director with minimal freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and procedures. This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army. In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals. A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Must have completed the 9th grade.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Previous experience working with children preferred.
- Fluency (written and verbal) in Spanish is preferred.

POSITION LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will keep the Youth Development Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is required to do light to moderate physical work and must be able to lift 20 pounds.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to interact with children.
- The work environment for this position includes an office and nursery environment with low to moderate noise level.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
