Overview
Azure Research - Systems (AzRS) is a research group within Azure that advances the limits of software systems for cloud platforms. The group focuses on improving the efficiency of cloud infrastructure across the full hardware and software stack. The team works closely with Azure production teams to deploy research with significant realworld impact and collaborates with academic and industry partners to advance the state of the art. The group also engages with the broader research community through publications in leading Computer Science venues, blog posts, opensource contributions, patents, and participation in conferences, while providing a collaborative, supportive, inclusive, and respectful environment for engineers and researchers working on complex computing challenges. The team is seeking a Lead Researcher IC4 to improve the efficiency of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure across multiple layers of the stack, including AI system software, innovative hardware, datacenter infrastructure, and its interaction with power grids, for both inference and training. The work uses algorithmic, systems, and architecture techniques to enhance performance, power efficiency, and energy efficiency across the infrastructure supporting current AI advancements. In this role, you will collaborate with researchers, engineers, industry partners, and workload owners to drive an innovative research agenda aimed at advancing the state of the art and influencing production systems. You will have opportunities to mentor new team members and research interns, propose and publish cuttingedge research in computer systems, and gain insight into the inner workings of a hyperscale cloud. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
