Job Description

The Fleet Manager / Senior Fleet Manager is entrusted with the end-to-end operational management, strategic oversight, and continuous enhancement of the company's owned returnable container fleet, which is critical for the safe and efficient transport of bulk liquids and gases. This role is pivotal in maintaining asset visibility, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing operational costs, and guaranteeing consistent service reliability. The Fleet Manager leverages data-driven insights to inform business decisions, proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement, and collaborates cross-functionally to support organizational growth and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Fleet Asset Management
  • Oversee the day-to-day performance, availability, and operational efficiency of the global returnable container fleet, ensuring optimal deployment and minimal downtime.
  • Monitor and analyze asset location, status, dwell time, and utilization to maximize fleet productivity and minimize operational bottlenecks.
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate fleet inventory and asset records using advanced tracking systems and digital tools.
  • Proactively identify shortages, idle assets, and lost containers, initiating corrective actions to safeguard company assets and minimize losses.
Demurrage & Customer Asset Control
  • Lead the identification, tracking, and resolution of demurrage events to reduce associated costs and improve asset turnaround times.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Customer Service, and Finance teams to recover assets, resolve disputes, and enhance customer relationships.
  • Analyze customer usage trends, providing actionable insights to support contract negotiations and service optimization.
Maintenance, Compliance & Safety
  • Coordinate and support regular inspections, certifications, and preventive maintenance programs to ensure fleet reliability and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and records, facilitating seamless internal and external audits.
  • Champion safety standards and compliance initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
Data, Documentation & Reporting
  • Own the integrity and accuracy of fleet data and documentation across all regions, ensuring timely updates and robust data governance.
  • Develop, refine, and disseminate standard reports and dashboards to provide visibility into fleet performance, utilization, and financial metrics.
  • Continuously audit and validate data to support informed decision-making and regulatory requirements.
Systems, Tools & Process Ownership
  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of fleet management processes, driving efficiency and scalability.
  • Support and enhance systems such as SAP and asset tracking platforms, advocating for technological innovation and automation.
  • Document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring consistent process execution and knowledge transfer.
Analytics, Optimization & Business Support
  • Conduct fleet sizing and utilization analyses to inform strategic planning and capacity management.
  • Support the development of CAPEX business cases and investment proposals, providing robust data and insights.
  • Perform detailed cost and profitability analyses, identifying opportunities for cost savings and value creation.
People Leadership (as applicable)
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to Fleet Analyst(s), fostering professional growth and analytical excellence.
  • Review and validate analytical outputs, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
Continuous Improvement
  • Champion and lead initiatives to enhance fleet utilization, reduce demurrage costs, and improve data quality and process efficiency.
  • Drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, actively seeking feedback and implementing best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in fleet management, logistics, or asset management within a complex, global environment.
  • Proven analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and drive actionable recommendations.
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with experience working across departments and with external partners.
  • Experience with fleet management systems (e.g., SAP, asset tracking platforms) and process automation is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and project management abilities.
