Position Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to implement and lead a competitive (men's) soccer team to compete in TCCAA/NJCAA Division 2. This position will also be focused on the academic development of student-athletes.

Essential Functions:

40% Soccer Program Management



  • Serve as men's head soccer coach including recruiting, organization of practice, match scheduling, management of operating budget, and fundraising.
  • Supervise the assistant soccer coach or coaches.
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of soccer equipment used by the program
  • Arranges officials for games
  • Tracks records, and statistics for both team and individuals
  • Work closely with the athletic director to schedule personal and team travel.
  • Present for all games and scrimmages including traveling to away games


25% Student Athlete & Academic Management



  • Monitor men's soccer student-athlete progress including class attendance, academic performance, personal adjustment and financial aid management
  • Coordinate and monitor student study, athletic tutoring and classroom performance.
  • Work with student athletes to aid placement at the University level


10% Student Athlete Conduct



  • Responsible for student conduct on the field of play
  • Accountable for making sure all student athletes are following the latest sport rules and guidelines with a focus on sportsmanship


5% Community Involvement



  • Involved in the local soccer community
  • Promotes the Pellissippi men's soccer program in a positive manner in the local community


10% Student Success Coordinator



  • Assess the specific needs of assigned student -athletes
  • Assist student-athletes in identifying their personal support system: faculty/staff/peer mentor, services, resources, and referrals.
  • Assist student-athletes with core academic and support processes (admissions, financial aid, scholarships, major/degree information, etc.) and make appropriate referrals.
  • Conduct topical workshops (Small group, In-class, and Virtual)
  • Conduct 1:1 coaching sessions (In-person and Virtual)
  • Input and maintain timely records of student interactions and success coaching sessions via EAB/Navigate platform
  • Monitor, track, evaluate, and report student success data


10%



  • Through proactive and intentional academic and social support, develop meaningful relationships that foster social belonging among student-athletes.
  • Triage early academic notification through timely referrals and responses. Maintain accurate records of all student interactions in the EAB/Navigate platform. Support Stay Strong Success Center programming as athletic schedules permit.
  • Assist with the administration of new student onboarding, contextualized orientation sessions, and welcome events to the extent that all such programs are attended, whether on campuses or in the community writ large, as athletic schedules permit.


Job Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Prefer at least two years of soccer coaching at the college level
  • Experience recruiting student athletes preferred


Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Skills and Abilities:



  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Knowledge in coaching soccer skills and strategies.
  • Ability to monitor players both academically and athletically.
  • Good public relations skills.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including some evening and weekend hours.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.
  • Ability to engage in the college's mission and values

Physical Demands:

The soccer coach may work in various locations including gymnasium, weight room, and outdoors. The soccer coach is required to perform work of an active nature, moving around locations requiring sufficient physical stamina to carry out duties. Requires ambulatory ability to lift medium-to-heavy weight materials, balance, and walk and stand for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity to observe moving objects and recognize physical injuries. Requires auditory ability to project voice to a small group. Lift and move light to moderately heavy (less than 50 pounds) objects.

Hazards:

The soccer coach is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions (cold, wet and humid) and/hot or humid gymnasium environment(s). The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
