Basic Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership.

Clearance Requirements:
Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a Business Development Director to lead the exploration and business development within the radomes and composite aircraft structures product domain. Directs business development activities for development and manufacturing programs with emphasis on next generation military aircraft, collaborative combat aircraft, and next generation commercial SatCom applications. Key business partner with the Radomes and Composite Structures Business Area Segment Director for strategy and growth. The candidate will use his/her expertise and understanding of the US military and commercial aircraft community, requirements, operations, maintenance, and other sectors to define business strategies, competitive landscape, and investment needed to bid and win radome and composite aerostructure opportunities in 2026 and beyond. The candidate will leverage our GDMS Radome and Composite Structures core competencies to develop customer and industry relationships, win strategies, and capture plans in support of growth objectives for Maritime and Strategic Systems (M&SS) Line of Business (LoB). The candidate will be responsible for providing oversight to proposal efforts, execution of new business and independent R&D funds, and contributing directly to the strategic plan for the Radomes and Composite Structures business segment. Candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all project activities are compliant to contract and GDMS common process requirements, and performed and completed in a timely, cost-effective, and efficient manner without compromising the quality of the deliverables.


Skills and Knowledge - The candidate shall possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Excellent understanding of military and commercial aircraft, radar and communication systems, and composite aircraft structures
  • Expertise and understanding of composite materials, multi-functional materials, and the influence of electrical and structural requirements on radomes and aircraft structures
  • Strong knowledge of DOD acquisition process and policy
  • Relevant past experience working with defense and commercial aircraft primes, and demonstrated understanding of the landscape for non-traditional defense primes
  • Relevant past experience managing programs, project planning, monitor and controls in accordance with company policies, common processes, and contract terms and conditions.
  • Expertise in assessing market and opportunity sets, developing business and capture strategies, and leading technical teams to position and win new opportunities.
  • Development of accurate and complete Bid and Proposals and ROMs that are responsive to customer requests and achieve business objective.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence across multiple customer organizations in support of engineering, analytical and operational objectives.
  • Strong communications skills, oral and written, with senior personnel

  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the GDMS culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure GDMS services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices.

Preferred Degree Types and Experience

  • Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership behaviors, effective communications skills, a basic technical understanding of the products and services the business provides, a sophisticated understanding of budget management and the ability to successfully manage, grow and evolve GDMS programs.
  • Given the type of products manufactured in the Radomes and Composites Structures business segment, preference is for degrees in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Material Science or Polymer Science, and Finance or Business Management

Target salary range: USD $228,408.00/Yr. - USD $247,145.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
