Overview:

As a Business Development Professional, you will collaborate with highly talented and experienced teams within HGA's Healthcare market and play a pivotal role in expanding our presence in both the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Through HGA's Healthcare work, we strive to make a positive impact on staff, patients and their families, and the surrounding communities. We are proud to support the Mission of our visionary clients by creating spaces that meet their specialized needs of today and address their aspirational goals.

The Business Developer is a strategic partner to Principals and Practice Group Leaders, responsible for advancing the healthcare market's pipeline development, relationship strategy, market intelligence, and pursuit support across both the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.

This role supports the growth of HGA's successful healthcare practice by helping teams identify the right clients, position early, pursue work strategically, and maintain a strong, visible presence in the healthcare industry. This role does not independently sell and close project opportunities but works collaboratively with the Marketing Principals. We are looking for someone who will identify and foster HGA principal-led client relationships as well as contribute to pursuit success through strategy, data, coordination, insight, and disciplined execution.

Expectations of this role include:

Pipeline Development & Client Strategy

Partner with Principals, Practice Group Leaders, and National Healthcare BD leadership to develop, prioritize, and advance a qualified healthcare pipeline.
  • Support client targeting and segmentation aligned with practice group and national healthcare growth strategies.
  • Assist with early-stage positioning and pre-positioning to ensure the firm is known and trusted before opportunities emerge.
  • Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities within the pipeline and recommend proactive actions.
  • Utilize proprietary tools and metrics to guide strategy.

Relationship Building & Market Engagement

  • Support principal-led relationship development with healthcare systems, institutions, and key decision-makers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, consultants, and influencers to support positioning and opportunity awareness.
  • Act as a connector - facilitating introductions, coordinating engagement, and ensuring continuity across teams and geographies.

Market Intelligence & Strategy

  • Monitor and analyze healthcare market trends, including capital planning, regulatory and policy shifts, M&A activity, and competitive dynamics.
  • Translate market intelligence into actionable insights that inform targeting, pursuit strategies, and go/no-go decisions.
  • Share insights regularly with regional and national leadership to support proactive, data-informed decision-making.

Pursuit & Capture Support

  • Support the full pursuit life cycle-from early positioning through interview preparation and post-interview debriefs.
  • Collaborate with Principals, SMEs, and Marketing to develop win strategies, positioning statements, and compelling narratives.
  • Support interview preparation, coaching, and rehearsal to strengthen performance and outcomes.
  • Ensure alignment with national healthcare messaging while tailoring approaches to specific clients and markets.

Market Visibility & Thought Leadership

  • Coordinate healthcare practice participation in conferences, client events, and industry forums in alignment with BD strategy.
  • Encourage and support Principals and team members in thought leadership activities, including speaking engagements, panels, articles, and white papers.
  • Help ensure market-facing activities reinforce the firm's healthcare brand, expertise, and strategic priorities.

CRM, Tracking & Internal Coordination

  • Maintain accurate and timely information in CRM systems, including client relationships, opportunities, and pursuits.
  • Track BD activity, pipeline health, and pursuit outcomes to support forecasting and reporting.
  • Coordinate closely with Marketing, National Healthcare BD leadership, and regional teams to ensure alignment and follow-through.
  • Support internal BD and practice meetings, including documentation of action items and next steps.

You will need to have:

  • 7-10 years of experience in business development, client engagement, or strategic marketing within A/E/C or healthcare (preferred).
  • Demonstrated success in relationship-based business development and pursuit support.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable partnering with senior leaders in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience with CRM and pipeline management tools preferred.
  • Ability to provide insight using data and metrics.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and energized by helping teams grow and win work.

Position location and travel:

  • Home base is HGA's Boston, MA or Washington, DC, hybrid work environment.
  • Travel required throughout the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Measures of success:

  • A visible, well-structured healthcare pipeline aligned with national and practice group priorities.
  • Strong Principal confidence in BD strategy, coordination, and support.
  • Improved early positioning and pursuit readiness.
  • Market intelligence that strengthens competitiveness and decision-making.
  • Consistent, intentional market visibility and thought leadership engagement.
  • Recognition as a trusted strategic partner within healthcare practice.
