Department Overview

PG&E's Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Position Summary

Develops controls for routine, complex or highly complex projects, maintenance and operational support of power generating, water storage, and water conveyance assets. This work includes RTU, PLC, and HMI development and programming, field support of maintenance and construction personnel and commissioning activities, which may include system documentation and drawing development. Responsibilities may include an understanding of computer networking and cybersecurity requirements for the Hydro control systems and to ensure designs and equipment comply with NERC CIP.

This position is hybrid with the expectation of weekly office visits.

PGE&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

California Minimum: $100,000

California Mid: $130,000

California Maximum: $161,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance to cross-functional teams, including maintenance and operations personnel, by collaborating on the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of equipment and system issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth.
  • Assist in the development of design standards, design builds, design reviews and new tools used in modernization.
  • Support department code compliance activities and Power Generation Standards (review, development and implementation).
  • Evaluate innovative and practical design solutions for the project with a focus on cost reductions, availability, safety and reliability.
  • Program PLCs, RTUs and HMIs for control of generation equipment including dams and conveyance systems.
  • Perform commissioning on modernization systems of generation facilities.
  • Develop criteria and requirements for the development of the SDCC, Test documents, and witness FAT (factory acceptance tests) and bench testing of PLC-based generation systems.
  • Develop engineering and construction documents System Design & Control Criteria (SDCC), specifications, construction drawings, Bill of Material, Description of Operations, P&IDs, startup procedures and related.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering-Electrical or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related technical experience, 3 years
  • Job-related experience, 1 year

Desired:

  • Job-related experience, 8 years
  • EIT-Engineer in Training certification
  • PE-Professional Engineer license
