Role Description

The Director of Technology is the primary technical visionary of a new "greenfield" digital lending ecosystem. Operating at the intersection of systems design, data security, and emerging technology, this role ensures that AAC's proprietary land intelligence and new digital lending platform is supported by a robust and secure infrastructure.

This role needs a pragmatic technology strategist responsible for the structural integrity and technical efficiency of the "Reimagine" platform. This leader orchestrates a "Best of Breed" ecosystem, ensuring that third-party solutions and internal systems communicate flawlessly via a scalable API-first strategy.

This role will be part of a new team that seeks to leverage the best qualities of a small agile startup with the presence and stability of a successful market leader. The role demands a hands-on startup mindset, balancing bold architectural vision with disciplined execution, while thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Reporting into the Partnerships and Alliances organization, this leader will be responsible for architecting and scaling the technology behind our next-generation agricultural lending platform. They will work closely with executive leadership to align technology with organizational goals, collaborate with the Head of Product to deliver customer-centric solutions, and engage with key technology partners and vendors to drive innovation and seamless integration.

This role demands direct, hands-on involvement in developing and maintaining the complete technology solution, with a particular focus on the front-end experience. The successful candidate will ensure the platform is intuitive, performant, and aligned with the needs of our customers and stakeholders. Core responsibilities include integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to automate underwriting and operations, implementing cloud-native infrastructure, and leading agile delivery practices-all while maintaining strong alignment across business units and external partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Own and evolve the technology vision, architecture, and stack decisions.
  • Ensure platform scalability, security, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Oversee agile delivery practices across internal and external team(s).
  • Oversee end-to-end product development lifecycle from ideation to launch.
  • Prepare and present regular delivery reports to senior leadership.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a small, high-performance technical team.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage resource allocation, performance, and professional development.
  • Partners with Product Strategy leaders and business leaders to align technology with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • Manage vendor relationships, Application Programming Interface (API) integrations, and third-party services.
  • Oversee contracts, budgets, and forecasting within the engineering domain.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

LEVELS OF SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:

This is a management and leadership position responsible for the hiring, training and evaluation of professional staff; makes independent decisions; works under the general direction of the Executive Head of Product Strategy.

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree, with emphasis on computer science, management information systems, accounting, or business is required; Ten (10) years directly related experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ten (10) years previous experience in software engineering and technical leadership is required. Candidates with experience in lieu of degree, would need a total minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience.
  • Proven experience in fintech or high-security SaaS environments is required.
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture and DevOps practices is required.
  • Previous experience with implementing AI/ML solutions.
  • Experience in an environment where you must balance rapid delivery with enterprise-grade stability is required.
  • Strong ability to hold external engineering teams accountable to high-fidelity technical specifications.
  • Agile/Scrum and DevOps certifications are strongly preferred.
  • High level of objectivity, tact, and diplomacy to establish and maintain effective on-going relationships is required.
  • Strong management, collaboration, negotiation and analytical leadership along with team building skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions within delegated authorities and time restraints is required.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and be driver to deliver quality above all else, be focused, and expert at managing process while maximizing delivery and customer value.
  • Expertise driving products and projects through the entire project life cycle, from inception to launch and beyond is required.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate with a broad set of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical is required.
  • Exceptional verbal, written analytical, persuasive, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically 10%-25% is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must have the ability to perform basic office tasks and sit at a desk for an extended period of time. Job requires extensive use of computers and phones. While performing the job, the employee is required to sit, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach and have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to adequately convey ideas and work well with a team. Must be able to interact effectively with people at all levels of company. Work during established business hours and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Travel Required in performance of the role.

FULL-TIME REMOTE: These roles and job functions can be done remotely, while maintaining our strong commitment to customer service and our business goals. Employees are welcome to come to an office to work if needed, and some travel for team meetings will be required.

PAY RANGE:

Minimum $122,926.05 - Max $233,559.48 Annual

This range is reflective of the national salary average for this position and will be adjusted using geographic variance for physical location of the hired candidate. American AgCredit may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

  • Reflected is the national base pay range and title offered for this job at the current level.

  • Compensation, title, and job level may be adjusted based on candidate qualifications including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location.

  • Salary offered, within the applicable range, is one component of the total rewards package offered to candidates.
