The Principal Chemist is an integral part of the Global Textile Care RD&E team, which leads the global technology development and innovation roadmap for commercial laundry applications that process healthcare, F&B, industrial and hospitality laundry. You will be responsible for managing a portion of the Global Textile Care innovation and product development portfolio, conducting lab and early field evaluations of prototype technologies, lead projects through a phase gate process, and be a core team member to advance an innovation program encompassing new laundry chemistry formulations with focus on surfactant design, water management in a commercial laundry plant, and overall successfully launch innovations .The portfolio includes a wide range of projects including early ideation concepts as well as global projects in feasibility, development and commercialization.

The position will be at the interface of chemistry and innovation to develop solutions that enhance portfolio growth by:

Interacting with multiple business functions including field sales, marketing, finance, regulatory and supply chain with a strong emphasis on Voice of Customer to identify customer value. Developing Textile Cares' detergent pipeline with new and innovative surfactant technologies and enhanced test methodology to better correlate physical properties to performance. Utilizing scientific knowledge, technical expertise in chemistry, formulation experience, and application knowledge to develop effective solutions for our customers. leveraging Corporate Technology and Anchor Team resources focused on chemistry advancements as well as Corporate Shared Resources such as Process Engineering, Packaging, Regulatory. interact with CDS and Textile Care's Digital and Marketing teams to develop the next digital solutions for our customers. interact with other industrial divisions and our equipment teams to develop new solutions in water management for our customers.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead projects in multiple functional areas within Textile Care RD&E.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop value driven innovations in chemical products, digital and water management solutions.

  • Lead Laundry product formulation including development of new actives and surfactants for the commercial laundry industry.

  • Develop detergent pipelines with new innovative surfactants and test methodology.

  • Delivers on long term innovation platforms and product development projects.

  • Works with cross-functional team to develop material and leads training to support product launches.

  • Represents Ecolab to key customers, trade/industry organizations and strategic suppliers.

  • Conducts applied scientific research aimed at advancing technical knowledge and/or solving complex problems.

  • Consistently challenges status-quo, brings fresh thinking, new methods and new technology forward, and integrates that into projects.

  • Utilizes Intellectual Property to protect ideas through patent filings, right to practice, trade secrets and the support of Technical Notebooks and Reports.

  • Utilizes and works with support systems including and not limited to SAP, EPIC, Phase Gate Tools and other business facing systems to determine strategic pathways and launch innovation.

  • Supports in-line maintenance and cost savings projects and opportunities.

  • Works as part of a cross-functional project team; collaborating closely with other researchers and colleagues from marketing and sales, and with customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer or related and 5 years, Masters in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer or related and 3 years or PhD

  • Willingness to travel up to 15%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing new chemical formulations across industries with a focus on surfactant design and its physical properties.

  • Experience in combining go to market chemical formulations / process design with digital solutions working a cross-functional team environment

  • Significant experience (5+ years) in surfactant technology, chemical product formulation, or performance and interaction of chemical actives in a consumer, industrial, institutional and/or academic role.

  • Superior communication, leadership presence, and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with functional teams, shared RD&E groups, and external resources.

  • Project leadership and/or project management experience.

  • Desire and proven track-record to create innovative, breakthrough solutions successful in market.

  • Ability to challenge the status quo and bring fresh solutions to problems

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The pay range for this position is $85,900.00 - $128,900.00. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
