STS Technical Services is hiring an experienced Avionic Crew Chief to lead advanced avionics installation and modification projects in Moline, Illinois. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for avionics professionals who thrive in complex environments, take pride in craftsmanship, and know how to lead by example. In this position, you will oversee avionics wiring projects from start to finish while mentoring technicians, coordinating schedules, and ensuring all work meets FAA, OEM, and company standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all avionics wiring projects, including routing, termination, splicing, shielding, and continuity testing for new installations and modifications
- Install, integrate, and troubleshoot avionics systems including Garmin flight decks, Gogo inflight WiFi, satellite communication systems, and cabin entertainment and connectivity equipment
- Read, interpret, and create wiring diagrams, schematics, and layout drawings to ensure accurate installation and OEM compliance
- Perform system configuration, functional checks, and verification testing following avionics installation
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting on electrical and data bus networks including CAN bus, ARINC 429, Ethernet, and RF cabling
- Inspect completed wiring work for quality, safety, proper shielding, strain relief, and regulatory compliance
- Maintain accurate installation documentation, logbooks, and project records
- Coordinate project schedules, assign work tasks, and mentor avionics technicians in wiring, crimping, soldering, and testing best practices
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance leadership, and OEM technical support to resolve complex integration challenges
- Ensure strict adherence to FAA regulations, safety standards, and internal procedures
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 6 years of avionics installation experience
- Strong working knowledge of FARs 43, 91, 135, and 145
- Ability to work overtime and flexible shifts as operational needs require
- Proven ability to lead teams while mentoring junior technicians in a calm, professional manner
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical procedures, engineering documents, and regulatory guidance
- Ability to write reports, procedural documentation, and technical correspondence
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and a strong work ethic

- EFIS
- Aircraft Electrical Systems
- Lighting Systems
- Pitot and Static Systems
- Bench repair experience preferred
- A&P License and/or FCC License is a plus
