The Payroll Tax Analyst role primarily focuses on supporting complex multi-state payroll tax compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. Ideal candidates bring deep system knowledge and a proactive approach to maintaining accuracy and compliance across all payroll processes.



Responsibilities

    Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, including multi-state tax registrations, filings, and remittances. Concentra is in 47 states and the District of Columbia with over 20 FEINs.
  • Analyze and reconcile payroll tax data to ensure accuracy and to support periodic and annual tax filings.
  • Assist with W-2 processing.
  • Manage tax notices and correspondence from federal/state/local tax agencies; research, resolve and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Establish new tax accounts and maintain existing registrations for multi-state employers.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, and audit support files.
  • Support system enhancements, tax automation, and internal process improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for providing resolutions to employee tax inquiries.
  • Assist in audits with federal, state, and local tax agencies, as well as external independent and internal auditors.
  • Serve as backup for other payroll tax specialist and garnishment specialist, as needed.
  • Assist with special projects, as needed.


Qualifications

  • Education Level: Bachelor's Degree Major: Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
    • Education Details:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent education and experience
  • In lieu of higher education, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice-versa.
  • Certifications and/or Licenses:
    • FPC or CPP certification preferred but not required.
  • Customarily has at least five years of payroll tax experience in a multi-state environment.
  • Experience with implementation or testing of payroll tax systems is a plus.

  • Ability to make decisions or solve problems by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions

  • The ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information (including HIPAA and PHI) in accordance with federal and state laws and company policies
  • Strong understanding of U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance. Excellent communication, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management capabilities. This position requires the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize without direct supervision required.
