The Payroll Compliance & Operations Analyst supports the accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance of payroll operations. This role focuses on auditing payroll and payroll tax results, preparing legal and regulatory reports, assisting with testing payroll system changes, and partners with entire payroll services team to ensure accurate and compliant processing. This position plays a key role in strengthening internal controls, reporting, and assisting the department which functions for a large, multistate organization that oversees payroll for approximately 14,000 employees.

The position will report to the Director of Payroll Services and can be a hybrid or remote role depending on the employee's home base.



Responsibilities

    Data Integrity & Controls:
    • Ensure data accuracy through regular audits, reconciliations, and exception reporting for department.
    • Investigate discrepancies by partnering with team members and leadership to resolve issues.
    • Monitor recurring error trends and recommend corrective actions.
    • Maintain documentation support for internal controls and audit requirements.
    • Ensure payroll and payroll tax processes follow federal, state and local regulations.
    • Support SOX and internal/external audit requests.
  • Compliance, Legal & Operations Reporting:
    • Prepare, validate and respond to requests for data including compliance, legal, and operations reporting.
    • Serve as a subject-matter resource for internal and external business partners regarding report data requests.
  • Operations Support & Business Partnership:
    • Support department during peak periods such as vacation, holiday and year-end support.
    • Audit assistance for off-cycle payroll reviews and corrections.
    • Assist department with testing and validation of system upgrades, acquisitions and integrations.
  • Reporting & Analytics:
    • Utilize departmental reporting tools to run and analyze payroll/payroll tax reports and reconciliations.
    • Track key metrics such as audit findings and resolutions.
    • Assist with defining requirements for tracking tools to monitor compliance activities.


Qualifications

  • Education Level: Bachelor's Degree Major: Accounting, Finance, Business or Human Resource Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
  • Education Details:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent education and experience
    • In lieu of higher education, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice-versa.
  • Certifications and/or Licenses:
    • FPC or CPP certification preferred but not required.
  • Customarily has at least 5 years of payroll experience to include payroll tax analysis, audit and compliance experience.

  • Ability to make decisions or solve problems by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions

  • The ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information (including HIPAA and PHI) in accordance with federal and state laws and company policies
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations, multi-state payroll and payroll tax principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, organization, analytics, problem-solving and timemanagement skills. This position requires the ability to meet work independently while adhering to strict payroll deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities without direct supervision required.
  • Ability to determine if decisions are needed based upon analysis findings and trouble shoot the severity of the analysis findings.
  • Experience in the following areas are valuable for this role:
    • Excel: Vlookup/Xlookup, PivotTables
    • Systems: Oracle and UKG ProWorkforce Management
    • Reviewing Out from these Reporting tools: SQL, PowerBi, UKG analytics
