DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Under supervision, provides professional child and family social services to support the safety, well-being, and development of children. Conducts interviews with clients, family members, and collateral contacts to assess economic, emotional, health, and environmental factors affecting family functioning. Determines and verifies eligibility for agency programs and services in accordance with established policies and regulations. Provides counseling, protective, and supportive services to children and families, including those involved in abuse and neglect cases. Assists families in developing and implementing service plans to improve behaviors, resolve problems, and promote healthier lifestyles. Makes referrals to appropriate community and agency resources as needed. Manages an assigned caseload and maintains accurate, timely, and well-organized case records, reports, social studies, and home studies.

Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients, courts, service providers, and other professionals. With supervision, attends court hearings, prepares documentation, and may present testimony and recommendations regarding case progress. Work is performed in office and field settings and may involve extended hours, on-call responsibilities, and frequent travel. Duties may include driving a county vehicle, transporting clients, climbing stairs, and performing other physically demanding activities as required. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 1-hour lunch.
    • Once a caseworker is trained, normal working hours may be flexed to coincide with consumer needs
    • On-call 24/7 on rotating basis. Irregular hours including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
