Location and Work environment: UMD Campus, In person.
Supervisor: Ed Kruse, ejkruse@d.umn.edu, 218-726-8978.
Work Schedule: 40 hours a week, Friday - Monday, 5:30am - 4:00pm

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Acts as lead worker for building and grounds workers in the performance of custodial and grounds duties on University campuses. Gives assignments and work instructions to employees and part-time student workers. Adjusts work schedules as required in case of absences. Discusses and assists subordinates with minor work grievances.
  • Acts as a lead worker and works with building and grounds workers in setting up equipment and furniture required for various functions.
  • Inspects buildings for cleanliness and condition of building hardware, fixtures, windows, etc. Makes reports to supervisor on cleanliness and needed repairs. Inspects building for proper levels of heat and ventilation and makes minor adjustments as required.
  • Assists in conduction on-the-job training for building and grounds workers in the use of custodial tools and equipment. Assures proper storage and preventative maintenance of work equipment and machinery.
  • Acts as lead worker and works with a crew of building and grounds workers for the removal of snow and ice from walks, steps and drives.
  • Exhibits strong communication skills in all aspects of the lead worker role to assure clear, consistent communication with co-workers, customers, and other members of the campus community.
  • Uses computer to access email, work orders, supply orders, safety and other information. Assists with compass time entry.
  • Represents Facilities Management and the University in a positive way by maintaining a professional and neat appearance.
  • Demonstrates respectful, courteous and cooperative behavior to all customers, co-workers and other members of the campus community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Safety gear may be required during the use of equipment and chemicals. Work requires repetitive bending, stooping, lifting, load carrying, ascending/descending stairs, ladder climbing, pushing and pulling.

Qualifications

Required/Essential Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and write competently in English and lift 50lbs to shoulder height.
  • Three years of experience in building and grounds work
