Description

GAI is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer 3 to join our Power Delivery team. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, team focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real-life problems. Candidates with good experience and knowledge in PLS-CADD are eligible for remote work.

The Transmission Line Engineer 3 position is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of projects within GAI's Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.

Competency



  • Knowledge of project management skills and uses of intermediate practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers and other PMs.
  • Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.


Job Responsibilities:



  • Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:


    • Preparation of Specification Packages
    • Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
    • Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower
    • Design and Analysis of foundations.
    • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
    • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
    • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.


  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.
  • Coordinates and develops proposed scope, schedule, and fee for projects managed.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects, providing peer reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.

  • Leads tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes.
  • Develops plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem.


Minimum Years of Experience



  • 8+ Years of Experience


Education



  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering


Certification/Licensure



  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.


Technical Responsibilities



  • Develops and reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Keeps informed of updates to standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Analyzes complex engineering projects to determine design requirements, uncertainties, and constraints.


Project and Task Management



  • Assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff.
  • Predominantly plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
  • Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments.
  • Mentors' direct reports and other engineers.
  • Demonstrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering, including creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability.


Communication Skills



  • Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills, including interpretation of complex technical and contractual language.
  • Considers the needs of diverse project stakeholders.
  • Leads project meetings and represents the organization in communications pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Analyzes and selects principles of formal communication, effective teamwork, and various pathways to developing leadership.


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to work indoors in professional office settings.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment.
  • Visual acuity to read printed materials, digital screens, detailed documents, and perform detailed work.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment. Ability to move between workstations and attend in-person meetings.
  • Ability to lift and carry office materials or equipment weighing up to 10-20 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Adequate hearing to participate in conversations, phone calls, and virtual meetings.
  • Ability to travel for meetings, training, or business purposes.
