Job Summary

The Pediatric Trauma Program Manager (Peds/Pediatric TPM) position works in conjunction with the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director to evaluate and improve the overall function of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program for pediatric trauma patients.

The Pediatric TPM directs and facilitates all components of the Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center verification ensuring adherence to the American College of Surgeons resource requirements for verification and Title 22 of the State Health and Safety Code for trauma facility designation by Sacramento County. The Pediatric TPM identifies and develops pediatric trauma specific standards throughout the continuum of care by working with the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director, providers, nurses, and allied health professionals to develop methods of meeting these standards. The Pediatric TPM collaborates with other state, county, and regional trauma professionals on trauma prevention, research, and educational projects. In addition, the Pediatric TPM identifies trauma specific educational needs and participates in the planning and implementation of educational programs, as well as instructing for national education programs such as Advanced Trauma Course for Nurses (ATCN) provided by professional organizations.

The Pediatric Trauma Program Manager is responsible for the daily twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas, to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies. The Peds TPM leads staff to model a professional practice environment by: providing clinically competent staff, encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication, supporting autonomy and accountability, providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education, stressing the importance of continuous learning, and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount. The Peds TPM supports research, participates in both long- and short-term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy. The Peds TPM is accountable to the Nurse Manager 2 and Executive Director, Patient Care Services.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restrictions
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Current Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) Instructor Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Master's degree in nursing or related field
  • Pediatric trauma coordinator experience at a level 1 pediatric trauma center
  • Ten (10) years of experience working in a pediatric trauma program at a level 1 pediatric trauma center
  • Four (4) years of experience working in a role requiring leadership skills and interaction with multiple departments throughout a health care center
  • Experience with at least two (2) pediatric level 1 American College of Surgeons (ACS) Verification, Review, and Consultation (VRC) reverifications
  • Five (5) years of experience using Trauma One data registry
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of health care technology within specialty area
  • Expert ability to collaborate effectively with staff, management, and clinicians at all levels and across departments
  • Full command (verbal and written) of the English language
  • Ability to lead department and house wide process improvement project/initiative

Department Overview

UCD Health is the only level I adult and level I pediatric trauma center in the Sacramento region. The trauma program serves patients across a 65,000 square mile area, serving over 33 counties and 6 million residents. The program is responsible for quality improvement and system wide change in alignment with the American College of Surgeon's Standards for Optimal Care of the Injured patient.
