As a Senior Systems Engineer within the Neuromodulation R&D team, you will play a key role in designing, integrating, and verifying complex implantable and connected neuromodulation systems. You'll be hands-on across the product lifecycle-translating requirements, analyzing system behavior, developing test strategies, executing verification activities, and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

This position requires deep expertise in neuromodulation technologies, system workflows, communication protocols, and automation. You'll collaborate across functions including software, hardware, firmware, regulatory, cybersecurity, cloud, and quality teams. You'll lead global system verification efforts, mentor engineers, and help ensure safe and effective therapies for patients around the world.

Your responsibilities will include:



  • Contribute to systems engineering activities including requirements interpretation, workflow analysis, system behavior mapping, and risk-based assessment
  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of complex verification strategies including waveform validation, communication paths, embedded behaviors, and algorithm-driven system responses
  • Develop and optimize test cases, technical objectives, and verification documentation ensuring comprehensive traceability
  • Provide hands-on system integration and verification of neuromodulation components, including:
    - Stimulator SEIT boards
    - Clinician Programmer applications
    - Patient Remote Controllers
    - Charger systems for implantables
  • Test system behaviors involving Bluetooth communication, cybersecurity features, and cloud-connected workflows
  • Verify system algorithms (e.g., steering, stimulation patterns, adaptive therapy) and validate programming rules and safety logic
  • Build and maintain automation frameworks and reusable libraries in Python and PHP
  • Use oscilloscopes, source meters, and digital multimeters for signal and hardware verification
  • Lead defect triage, prioritize issues, and drive system-level root-cause analysis
  • Support Agile ceremonies (planning, retrospectives, etc.), maintain Jira boards, and ensure global alignment
  • Mentor junior and regional verification engineers; assist with onboarding and technical training
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation (trace matrices, reports, summaries)
  • Continuously improve verification methods, automation coverage, and quality processes
  • Utilize Bitbucket and Python-based tooling to support code reviews and automation pipelines
  • Apply project management principles to track and report engineering milestones
  • Contribute to risk management activities including FMEAs, hazard analyses, and safety evaluations



Required qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in neuromodulation medical devices, embedded systems, or regulated product development
  • Strong background in system verification and mixed hardware/software integration
  • Hands-on experience with Bluetooth communications, cybersecurity interfaces, and cloud-connected systems
  • Proven ability to verify and integrate implantable neuromodulation components and programmer interfaces
  • Experience building automated libraries and frameworks in Python and PHP
  • Ability to interpret system requirements and create traceable, compliant verification plans
  • Proficiency using oscilloscopes, source meters, and multimeters for signal verification
  • Familiarity with SDLC/PLCP, defect management, and Agile methodology
  • Strong written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills



Preferred qualifications:



  • Expertise in spinal cord stimulation (SCS) waveform verification including timing precision and multichannel coordination
  • Experience validating therapy execution behaviors, safety rules, and algorithm-driven workflows
  • Proven leadership in global verification efforts-mentoring, aligning workflows, and driving execution
  • Skilled in building scalable automation architectures and reusable libraries for testing
  • Strong understanding of SEIT boards, clinician programmers, and patient-facing hardware
  • Proficiency with Bitbucket branching, peer review practices, and Python tooling
  • Experience evaluating adaptive therapy algorithms and behavioral patterns
  • Demonstrated ability to produce rigorous, audit-ready documentation and verification summaries
  • Track record of driving verification efficiency, expanding automation coverage, and introducing best practices
  • Experience in cross-functional issue resolution and leading formal verification across sites

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
